I am very, very disappointed with British terrestrial TV.

[livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo was kind enough to indulge me by looking in the TV listings to see when White Christmas is going to be on. It turns out that the answer to that question is "It's not". Apparently, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys rates above my all-time favourite Christmas classic. But that's not all. While there were some good films on the listings for next week, I noticed a conspicuous absence of the following:

Miracle on 34th Street
It's a Wonderful Life

How the hell do you do Christmas terrestrial programming without the three major Christmas classics? How? I don't get it. What is wrong with people that Carrie and Spy Kids get airtime and White Christmas and It's a Wonderful Life don't?

Needless to say, this has somewhat dampened my holiday good cheer. I nearly cried when I found out that I wasn't going to get to see White Christmas this year (unless the DVD-shaped "silly gift" from Mum is a DVD copy of said film, which is possible). I knew I should have bought it at Virgin when I saw it this afternoon; I considered it, but thought, "Well, that might be Mum's silly gift and it's on sale so I don't know if I'll be able to return it; besides, it'll be on TV..."

Ho. Fucking. Ho.

Damfino. If they're not showing any Bond films either, something's really amiss.

Tomorrow Never Dies and that's it. Hardly classic Bond.

It's got Ziqiong Yang in it; that's a good sign IMO. ^_^ And it is Bond, in a way that the other films you mention as being shown aren't Christmas.

That's the first time I'd seen her called that. You live and learn.

It's not a bad film, I suppose, but not quite what [livejournal.com profile] thessalian was hoping for. I must admit I'm confused too, though I reckon we will be watching the Disney Alice in Wonderland...

I didn't know that was her birth name until I looked at the listing. I was remembering the personal name as "Chu-kheng" (I saw it romanized that way somewhere once).

I reckon we will be watching the Disney Alice in Wonderland...

It might actually be a better fit for the season. 8-)

It. Is. NOT. A better fit for the season. I want my Bing Crosby fix, godsdamnit!

Are you sure it's not on during the early part of the day? They were showing christmassy stuff today; maybe it was one of them?

We looked through the listings as a continuous thing, one day moving into another, rather than broken into daily chunks. We also looked back a few days to see if we missed it. We didn't. And it doesn't seem to be on the Freeview channels either.
