Tooth Fairy

Okay, the impacted wisdom tooth thing is ridiculous now. I'm going to go to the nearest emergency NHS dentist that takes people who aren't registered with a dentist yet, and I'm going to see about getting this puppy removed. I should be able to manage it fees-wise; I don't think that sort of work costs more than £50, I don't want any of the scaling, fillings or any of the rest of it done and I'm frankly not worried about saving that cracked molar because it hasn't done me any harm so far. I just want the jaw-swelling and associated pain to knock it the fuck off already.

This has not been a good few months for my health. Why can't dental surgery be free on the NHS like everything else?

So I got an appointment at the dentist and, after having to wait for a good hour before being seen (well, I guess private patients come first), I went in and spoke to the nice dentist lady.

Good news is, it's not an impacted wisdom tooth. Bad news is, it's an abscess due to infection of that cracked molar of mine. So I've got antibiotics and the cracked molar has to come out next week. Plus there's some other minor issues (a necessary filling, tartar build-up etc) that have arisen because I haven't been to the dentist in 13 years or so. Those, however, can wait until my job situation has improved or settled or whatever. At least I've got some money set aside that can pay for the extraction.

Anyway, I've just had to mix amoxicillin powder in water and drink the foul concoction, which I managed only by dint of adding sugar because seriously, not as bad as the barium but still horrible stuff. And in an hour I get to take an amoxicillin capsule, and I get to keep taking those for the rest of the week. More antibiotics. Yippee. Well, as long as they help - I'm having enough trouble eating and sleeping as it is without my mouth giving me problems.

I did manage to get to Atari-Ya after the dentist thing, though. I was supposed to take the horrible podwer drink stuff straight away but figured it could wait 15 minutes while I got some necessary shopping done. I got some gummies (not quite the same kind as I got last time, but I recall that brand still being good), some strawberry Pocky and some other bits - care package to go with the Missouri Christmas gifts. I also got a couple of udon bowls for myself, thinking they'd make nice lunches. Now all I need to do is wrap the actual presents and get to the post office. Not sure if I'm going to be able to manage that today or if I'll wind up waiting 'til Monday, but we'll see how I feel later.

Got a letter from the consultant I saw - well, copy letter, anyway. Talking about how I could not tolerate the intubation of the GI endoscopy tube and so I'd had a barium meal and he'd discuss the results with me at our next appointment. Yes, I knew that...

*sigh* Beginning to wonder about Dragonmeet attendance. It's bad enough being ill and in pain, but now I'm on antibiotics, which have a tendency to sort of frag the immune system. Con's probably not the place you want to go in that situation. I'll see how I feel tomorrow, though. I don't want to miss Dragonmeet, but ... I don't want to get the plague, either.

This. SUCKS.

how to play

step 1: post a list of 10 things you truly, really want for the holidays. can be anything, from LJ icons to charity to a new car. you never know what a random person might be able to give you. remember to include a way for potential gifter to reach you, if you don't want to provide your address in your post.

step 2: peruse other people's wishlists and see if you can make anyone's wish come true! you don't need to spend money if you don't want to: your trash might be someone else's treasure. make someone happy, improve your karma. gifts may be anonymous if you wish.

All I want for Christmas... )

If you need to get in touch with me, LJ comments are a good preliminary. Or there's IM for those of you who know my AIM name. If you have a list, please link to it.
