To expand on the various amusements involved in the process of getting me back online:

1) [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo arrived yesterday evening with a box, which is apparently capable of little more than net stuff and generally barfed over a few installation points last night. However, it's doing better than the Frankenbox because it at least has a hard drive and generally isn't in bits all over the place.

2) We couldn't get the drivers for the wireless card off the disc we had because of a CD-drive related problem, so we originally had it hooked up via network cable on the Screen of Evil in [livejournal.com profile] cholten99's Command Central. [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo was coming up with a rather long-winded and ingenious method of getting around the non-reading CD drive when I finally got up the nerve to suggest, "Couldn't we just take one of the CD drives out of the Frankenbox and put it in this one?" Apparently, there was no reason why we couldn't, so he did and I now have wireless access in my room. No more Screen of Evil.

3) Apparently most of the problems with this box involve the motherboard, so I'm offering the one out of the Frankenbox now that I've got the old one out of Rufus V and [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 has his new one. That plus the memory I put in it to begin with. That should make the TempBox work about as well as Frankenbox did before surgery (except of course without the hard disc problems).

What scares me is that it actually sounds like I know what I'm talking about. Eegh.

Last night was amusing, migraine notwithstanding. This morning has been nice, migraine also notwithstanding. (Yes, still. This is one of the ones that's gonna last for days.) I made breakfast and now we're geeking out and stuff. I think [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo is working on his Technocracy campaign. He keeps griping about being "woefully underprepared". How can you ever be prepared for people like us in game? I gave up being prepared a long time ago.

Oooooh. I am woman. Hear me geek.

Okay, so there was a vast amount of irritation involved in getting this stupid thing reconnected -- it decided it didn't like my wireless card -- but I'm back online again. Whee. Now, of course, almost no one I want to talk to is online. Boo.

Anyway, after a morning of lounging around quietly eating things, [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo and I headed off to Finchley for lunch with [livejournal.com profile] weaselbitch, Kat and Mark, which was entertaining. Haven't seen the latter two in ages and hadn't realised how much I missed them.

Then, we were the enemy -- or the faction I'd considered the enemy ever since I started this whole White Wolf thing -- the Technocracy.

In space, no one can hear you bully. )

I'm sure I'm missing bits, but I am tired and my head hurts. But I did have a fabulous time, though I'm not sure "ball-breaker" and "group mum" go together all that well. Eh, whatever; I think I made it fly. And [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo didn't need to fret at all because we all enjoyed ourselves, no one felt railroaded and it didn't feel ill-prepared in the least.

So tomorrow, more interview stuff. Whee. Then off to some pub on High Holborn to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo and these John and Maria people I keep hearing about. This should be amusing.
