My favourite holiday-themed movie is "White Christmas". It's a well-done musical - at least in my opinion - with most of the musical numbers not so jarring as a lot of these things are by dint of most of the characters being entertainers. There are some great lines and a fair bit of classic wit, and it's just the kind of soppy that I can really appreciate.

However, while "White Christmas" has been my favourite for those reasons for a very long time, that is not the reason why it's my favourite nowadays. See, the first Christmas I was with [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo, I was very much looking forward to the fairly de rigeur airing of this particular Christmas movie, and [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo was amused. I mean, it's terribly cheesy, I know, and it got a fairly indulgent-grin-chuckle reaction from him, but ... damnit, it's a tradition for me, anyway. So I perused the listings to find out when it would be on, and was horribly disappointed to find that it wouldn't be. At all. They weren't showing any of the classics on any of the stations we had at the time. I was gutted, seriously.

So on the 23rd of December, [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo popped off to Waitrose, I thought to pick up some last minute bits for Christmas dinner. I was pootling about on the Sims or something, and when he came back in, he walked into the study and told me to close my eyes. I did, and a DVD case was dropped into my hands. Lo and behold, he'd gone out specifically to get a copy of "White Christmas" for me. So now we watch it every year, and he has had to admit that he kind of likes it. And that's why I've got a real soft spot for that movie.
