- 10:18 Don't care what the Guardian says - sometimes 'said' is NOT the word when dialogue is involved. Sometimes the word is 'asked'. #
- 10:19 I get not going crazy with the 'squeaked' or 'gasped' (though if you want to establish mood, sometimes you need those too)... #
- 10:20 ...But if you overuse the word 'said' the word loses all meaning, looks like gibberish in the text and becomes jarring. #
- 10:21 Therefore, all "RULES FOR AUTHORS" *trumpets and fanfare* ought to be taken with a grain of salt. Guidelines, as Barbossa said. #
- 10:22 Or, to put it another way, "Learn the rules ... so you know how to break them". No one finds their own voice without bending the 'rules'. #
- 10:29 Oh, and as to the UK Digital Economy Bill? The only thing it has to do with the 'economy' is making rich media moguls richer... #
- 10:30 ...and giving a lot of cops and white-collar nimrods in legal new jobs. Beyond that, it's all reactionary bollocks that won't help anyone. #
- 10:30 I just hope it doesn't get past the Lords... #
