- 11:22 So @AlasdairStuart tweets about English pop culture sf. I've been thinking about English pop culture sf too. Namely, US Red Dwarf remake. #
- 11:24 Why is there need to remake UK anything in the US? Red Dwarf, Coupling, renaming the first Harry Potter novel... I mean, why? #
- 11:26 Is UK culture, humour and drama so inaccessible? If so, why haven't they remade Doctor Who with US actors and settings? #
- 11:28 @AlasdairStuart Yeah, but why does the 'cultural shift' only go one way? No one tried to remake Desperate Housewives for the UK... #
- 11:29 @AlasdairStuart Though franchising the idea is a good way of doing it, if they have to do it at all. #
- 11:29 Hmm. There's an idea. The Sopranos remade for the UK. Paging Guy Ritchie... #
- 11:35 @AlasdairStuart Doesn't work either way - US versions of Coupling and Red Dwarf both tanked and no one will even mention them anymore. #
- 11:36 @shoepixie I was very young in the 80s and watching Tom Baker versions on PBS in Canada. And I meant full American setting/cast. #
- 11:37 @shoepixie Imagine ... I dunno, Matt Frewer as The Doctor with Miley Cyrus as his Companion. #
- 11:37 @shoepixie Well, okay, Matt Frewer would make a very good Doctor. #
- 11:38 Hmm. Now thinking of what American actors would make good Doctor Whos. Matt Frewer is way, way up there. #
- 11:40 The concept of Robin Williams as The Doctor frightens me. But John Lithgow could be great... #
- 11:41 Younger actors (as the Doctors seem to be getting younger all the time): Colin Ferguson could do it, from what I've seen of him in Eureka. #
- 11:42 @AlasdairStuart I didn't watch the HHGTTG movie. I'm a bit of a purist and (blasphemy) I think Adams is a teensy bit overrated. #
- 11:43 @AlasdairStuart Liked the book, oddly couldn't get into the radio play, but got bored after Restaurant. #
- 11:45 @AlasdairStuart I'll take your word for it. But, going back to an earlier point ... Nathan Fillion as the Doctor? REALLY? #
- 11:46 @AlasdairStuart If I was going to pick Firefly cast, I'd go Adam Baldwin. Or Ron Glass. #
- 11:48 @AlasdairStuart. Hmm. Might have to give Castle a look-see. So much TV to try to watch, so little time. Only just started Eureka S2. #
- 11:51 @AlasdairStuart With Adam Baldwin, I'd draw the line at 'femme fatale'. #
- 11:55 @AlasdairStuart He'd be one of my first picks for Spider Jerusalem in any screen adaptation of Transmetropolitan, though. #
- 11:56 @AlasdairStuart In my top 3 along with Kevin Spacey and Matt Frewer. #
- 12:01 @AlasdairStuart My problem with Spacey is that he's a touch too composed. But then, great actor so that might not be an issue. #
- 12:02 @AlasdairStuart And big is one thing, but half of Spider's deal is that emaciated 'I do drugs and caffeine rather than sleep' look. #
- 12:05 @AlasdairStuart ...Ooh, even after seeing him in Waiting for Godot ... no. #
- 12:06 @AlasdairStuart It's because he's already bald, isn't it? Haven't people heard of electric shavers? (But then, he is a fan...) #
- 23:28 RT @jchutchins: "7th Son: 7 Days" episode 3 -- featuring fan-favorite mad hacker Kilroy2.0 -- is live. bit.ly/wlMhg #
US Dr. Who
Date: 2009-10-07 11:35 pm (UTC)Of course like many Whovians they deny that the 8th Doctor never happened, I would have preferred that myself as it was a horrible episode much like the Star Wars: Christmas Special.
