Somebody please explain to me why consular offices are only open for four hours on any given day! Look, I got up late - it happens when I am ill and underslept. And I did my usual LJ and webcomic faff, and then I thought I should check the opening hours of Canada House so I knew when to leave to pick up passport application forms. This check happened at about 1:30.

Guess what time the office closes.

I was pretty well incensed by the whole thing, until I took note of the nice little section on the website that said you can download your passport application forms. So I've saved the pdf in question and will fill it out, get the necessary documentation and only have to make one trip. Hooray for teh intarwubs!

On the topic of geekdom, I sat down and ran an error check on my F drive last night, because I noticed that my F drive has eaten some more bits. Namely, a few scene logs from the CbN stuff. None of that got recovered, but at least it prompted me to do a decent error check and so forth. [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo has suggested that I might want to just go out and buy a new, pre-made box. Then we could turn the Frankenbox into the entertainment media server and good times ensue for all. While I see the benefits of this, I don't want a prefab machine. I suppose part of the reason for this is that I really, really don't want to have to run yet another reinstall. Yet another reason is financial considerations - long-term spending goals are hard to fathom when your paycheque comes weekly. Still, it might be nice to have a system that actually works, and I could probably get something better than the Frankenbox for less than it would cost to rebuild. On the other hand, the whole point of the Frankenbox was to teach me how to do all this stuff, and it just feels off. I dunno. Maybe I'm taking the whole thing too seriously.

[livejournal.com profile] angusabranson is a sweetie. So I have now reserved three of his on-sale Mage: the Awakening books and will pay for them next month, which will be easy as new job comes with pay rise. The others I don't have would also be nice, but the three I've reserved will do for a start. I'm not quite so interested in the Legacies, to be honest, and while "Reign of the Exarchs" sounds interesting, it also doesn't sound vital. Of course, I could be wrong. Of course, there are a couple of the Forsaken books that also look tasty, but it doesn't seem like Werewolf is anywhere near as popular as Mage for the other players with whom I game. I want to get the stuff I need for the next long-term campaign I run before anything else, so the Forsaken stuff is really not as vital. At least Vampire isn't a temptation - I'm still holding out for a short-run old WoD Sabbat campaign, but then I'm a little bit twisted like that. I'd also like to try my hand at running Technocracy and giving an actual run-through of a short-run (by necessity) Fomori campaign. Yes, you can do that, but it's probably worse than Sabbat. Yes, I am slightly sick and twisted. You all knew this coming in.

I should probably go out and get supplies. Cola and suchlike. I should also probably do lunch but to be honest, I'm not sure I could manage it. We have soup here, but the concept of soup is singularly uninspiring and everything else seems a bit daunting. I hate being sick.

You replied to a comment of mine on the Something Positive feed. I came to read the post you linked and read some of your entries.

Is CbN Charleston by Night?

I've never played there, but I used to play on Vegas and Ashland (and I think it was Baltimore or St. Louis, briefly). Your writing style seems familiar, did you play on any of those?

CbN is indeed Charleston by Night. Never played Vegas, Ashland, Baltimore or St Louis, so I guess you may have just seen someone whose writing style is similar to my own. I can't be the only screaming ranting vituperative bitch in the world. :)
