So I went out for drinks with [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo and [livejournal.com profile] weaselbitch, and had a wonderful time. However, if two hours of so of sitting in a pub chatting to people can wipe me out that much and make me feel that miserable, I'm not seeing how work is even a vague possibility. Oh well; at least now I know what happens if I try to exert myself. Plus, again, a wonderful time was had. So can't complain.

So after that, we went home and I went back to FFXI; still farming small-to-middling mobs for drops rather than going on all-out exp runs. Still, not doing too badly - I'm less than a thousand points off level 18 from just a few days of farming (this after the up-down-up-down of getting occasionally slaughtered by Wild Dhalmel). I also sold a couple of stacks of crystals at the Auction House at what seem extremely inflated prices (gods know why the price on those has gone up so much) and finally managed to save up enough for a rather splendid fishing rod. I can panic less about my rod breaking now, which is nice. I encountered a couple of problems over the course of the day with people hogging my farming spots - the Puppeteer wasn't so bad and I considered forming a party-of-two with that one, but the Beastmaster was just annoying when he Charmed one of the Canyon Rarabs I was about to kill. Oh well; that's the way the game goes sometimes. Still, on the whole, it went quite well, with another individual who's at least subbing White Mage casting Cure and Protect on me while I was locked in combat with a Rarab, and then cheering me on. Some of the people in this game are really rather nice, y'know?

Still, it wouldn't be FFXI without all-out stupidity. The first sign of this was when I was headed home after a Vana'diel-day's worth of Whack-a-Rarab. I'd nuked a few far-too-easy Savannah Rarabs in the hope of getting more bits of post for this one quest that just keeps running and running and running... Didn't get any, but did get a rarab hide and was down a fair bit of MP by the time I got to the East Sarutabaruta gate. Not that it mattered, but I figured I might as well sit down and rest up before going into town proper ... and while I did, this utter n00b walks out of the gate, looks at me for a minute and then sends me a /tell: "do u hav a spare staff or cure scrolll?" (Yes, that is verbatim.) I told him no, wished him luck and got the almighty hell out of there in case stupidity was contagious.

Then I was at the Auction House, seeing if I had the gil for this fishing rod. As I did so, I saw a name I recognised - he's a member of my LS. And he's using a Scroll of Stone, which means he's learning a level one Black Mage spell. ...Last I saw him, he was a monk. And if I remembered correctly, he was a Galka. I think I've spoken on the subject of which races are best suited to magedom when I mentioned the Elvaan RDM with the approximate mana point total of a blueberry scone - I believe I said that the only race less suited to a mage job than an Elvaan was a Galka. But I wave at the LS guy (and yes, Galka) in his shiny new lvl 1 mage gear ... and yeah. He's levelling up both black and white mage. Galka. Mage. NO. But I can't say that; he's a nice guy. So I let him deal with the utter folly of a Galka taking a magic-user job on his own and hope he knows what he's doing.

Beyond that, not much is new, I'm afraid. Oh, except for the whole "finally going to finish off Restart" thing; it'd be nice to have that SL locked. Then I can start the New and Shiny. Yay for the New and Shiny!
