Guilt and Exasperation

Now I really remember why I hated working for the NHS. I also recall why so many of the patients were such total arsehats - frustration with a system that, bar a few people, doesn't work.
Ultrasound: I'm supposed to ring Tuesday. Despite the fact that my GP expressed how urgent the damn ultrasound is. Thank you, Barnet Hospital Radiology Unit. Apparently it's supposed to take two working days to process. I take it that Thursday doesn't count. I'm ringing on Monday, on the off chance.
Blood Tests: I was sort of hoping to avoid trucking my arse out to Chase Farm Hospital for a walk-in because I have no desire to travel to Enfield for a damn blood test. However, I am having minor problems getting hold of anybody on the appointment lines. Can't try Finchley because their blood test unit appointment line closes at 2pm and I slept in. A lot. Mostly my fault, but seriously, 2pm?!? So I tried Barnet. Barnet frankly sucks. Barnet gave me a message saying "We have an extremely high volume of calls at the moment; please try calling back between 2pm and 4:30pm". I check the clock. The clock says 4pm. Change your message, you twerps.
So fuck it. I give it one more shot on Monday (setting my alarm for midday just to be on the safe side) and if I still can't get through, Chase Farm it is. I'd try Cheshunt, but not only do I not know where it is, but it's open for an hour and a half between 8am and 9:30am. Eh ... no.
It'd be easier if the staff at these places didn't sound so bored and fed up. I know the job sucks and the pay sucks and the whole situation generally sucks, but I always tried to have my friendly professional voice on when I picked up the phone in these places. At the very least I tried not to have my voice give off auditory vibes of "eat shit and die" the way these people have. Now I feel really bad for leaving the NHS in the hands of surly incompetent morons. Wah.
