On [livejournal.com profile] kixie's journal, she links to a quiz about George W Bush that the Guardian site had up in honour of his 60th birthday or something. But I'm not going to link to it because I'm going to talk about the answers and it seems kind of redundant.

Presidential quote going along the lines of "I don't think atheists should be considered as citizens".

Likens his thinking to be like that of the 'political thinker' Jesus Christ.

Reckons that his best moment since taking office was catching a fucking fish.

And, of course, the "It looks like a budget; it's got lots of numbers in it" thing.

There are people in this world who I don't think are worth strangling. Yes, they're stupid. Yes, they're annoying. Yes, you wish they would just go the fuck away but in the grand scheme of things, they're not hurting anyone so you just let them go. The people who stop directly in front of the ticket barriers at Tube stations. People who talk in the cinema. People who meander along the pavement in front of you at the pace of an arthritic snail when you're in a hurry. Leet-speaky noobs who ruin your RP experience. Entitlement Bitches. Ham-Fisted Editor. Those kids who don't seem to think they need to use headphones when listening to their music top-volume in a crowded bus.

However, their detrimental effect on society is minimal. They don't run a world superpower, after all. This man, with his God-bothering, warmongering, ditzy stupid ignorant attitude, is a fucking menace. I'd say at least he's out of office fairly soon now, but then I get horrible visions of Cheney in office and my brain tries to evacuate via my ears in protest.

So a space shuttle with a crack in the foam lining of its fuel tank got launched into fucking space. That sort of shit is how the Columbia went down, and yet despite something like 100-1 odds of there being a serious problem and mutiple fatalities, NASA launched the Discovery anyway. On 100-1 odds. And they're going to be undergoing safety checks while they're up there. Which will also be around the time they're doing space station repairs. I'm given to understand that the reason they are having to do repairs on the ISS is because the ISS keeps running into old NASA space debris, which NASA refuses to clean up because of the debris' "historical significance". If that's the case, why don't they collect it all and stick it in a museum, where things of historical significance ought to go, instead of leaving it around like litter? NASA seems to be trying to screw itself over for no apparent reason and I just don't get it. I mean, apart from a cynical outlook of "Hey, if things go wrong up there, we'll probably be freed of our obligation to the ISS; plus wouldn't it make a great distraction from Gitmo?"

Ah, yes, Guantanamo Bay. I am absolutely loving this. Bush says, "I'm gonna lock 'em all up forever" or some such shit. Supreme Court says, "You can't do that". Bush says, "Oh" and flubs a number of speeches. Senate says, "Yes you can, Georgie; just give us some time to figure this all out". Bush says, "Great! Hey, Supreme Court Guys! I'm gonna hang onto those Guantanamo guys until we figure out how to make it legal for me to do so!" And the Supreme Court, in its infinite wisdom, has yet to say, "Fuck off. Let them out. NOW". I mean, honestly, Supreme Court has him on the ropes, and should now get the balls to move in for the kill. Otherwise, those fucking weasels that serve as Bush's higher brain will turn the whole damn world upside down to let this shit be legal. Raaaaagh.

And in other news, the BBC is staffed by fuckwits. A year on from the 7/7 bombings, they take a bus bombing victim's boyfriend to confront the bomber's father. With a BBC researcher in tow. Oh, come on! When will people stop turning the entire godsdamned world into reality television? Some things should be private, for gods' sakes. And yet the BBC did it and the boyfriend agreed to it and so the only person not expecting it was the poor father of the bomber. What good does it do to turn around to someone who lost his son and start going on about how "your son killed my girlfriend!" The father. Didn't. Do it. Whatever the father's politics, or attitude, or whatever, it was not the father who got on that bus and blew himself up, so why don't people leave the poor man alone? Yes, it's a shame, you can't get at the culprits, because the culprits are dead. Get over it. Move on. Be zen. Or at least be not-a-fuckwit. A little sensitivity, por favor?

This is the kind of thing that makes me hate the world.

I'm pretty sure that atheists quote was GB senior, not our current Beloved Overlord.

"You're talking about Social Security like it's some kind of federal program." If we had a liberal media, they'd've replayed that quote every time he said anything about Social Security thereafter.

And... the BBC fuckwittery? My lack of god. The best I can say about that shit is, at least it's not as bad as the parents in M. Scott Peck's People of the Lie who gave their younger son, as a present, the gun with which his older brother had committed suicide. (At least, I'm not sure it's as bad.)

He is SUCH an asshole. But his world is beginning to crumble around him; we should hopefully be rid of him soon. Yay, 2008!
I wish, though, that he'd get impeached.

I often wonder...

if Cheney has served as Bush's assassination insurance...not that I advocate assassination. Impeachment, though, maybe!
