I do not like the head of practice at my health service provider. He is scarily devoid of competence. First he kept me waiting in his office for fifteen minutes with pill boxes in plain view and not locked up, a patient's notes and a pile of open correspondence on his desk in front of me, and the patient history screen still up on his computer. Huge breach of patient confidentiality right there. Then he finally turned up and asked what the problem was. I gave him the list of symptoms starting back from Thursday (mild to moderate fever, fatigue, aches and malaise, followed by the gland swelling I noticed last night) and when I got to the gland problem he asked, "So what are your symptoms?" Um ... I just said. I told him that the fever was likely better but I wasn't sure, but he didn't bother to haul out a thermometer or anything. Instead, he focused solely on the gland issue, took a peek down my throat (not bothering with a tongue depressor either, though with the amount of swelling I suppose it wasn't necessary), and called it tonsillitis. I've checked the NHS Direct site symptoms list and that sounds about right. He said it could be viral or bacterial infection, but rather than check, he stuck me on antibiotics just in case. Of course, NHS Direct says that it's likely to be bacterial in adults, and throat cultures take a couple of days to get back, but yeesh. I'm thinking of calling and trying to get a 'just in case' appointment for Monday, which will just about coincide with the end of my course of antibiotics. If I have to have my tonsils out, I'm not going to be happy.

So I'm taking the rest of the week off. With antibiotics screwing with my immune system, and so many antibiotic-resistant strains of shit and miscellaneous virii kicking around, I'm not sharing public transport with anybody if I can avoid it. Besides, I still feel like somebody's sapped all the energy from me, so I think I'd rather wait until I'm up to moving before getting back to work. Less than two weeks after my holiday, too. Bum.

Ice cream's supposed to be good for swollen tonsils, but I'm lactose intolerant. Phooey. I suppose there could be sorbet but with the amount of ice cream in the very small freezer and the fact that [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo doesn't eat fruit-based deserts of any kind, I think it's a bit of a waste of freezer space. *shrug* I'll eat what's about in reasonable amounts and hope I don't get worse nausea than I already have, I think. Plus there's hot chocolate, which is always a bonus; though dumping hot liquid on inflammed areas might not be the best idea, it makes me feel better.

The lurgy was bad enough. The fact that the lurgy let in its mutated possibly bacterial bretheren really blows dead goats for nickels. Still, I have marginally more energy so I will now play a little bit of Sims 2 while I can still remain upright. I haven't done a thing with my Legacy family and I may decide to completely rebuild their house. Well, they can probably afford it and their domicile is butt-ugly.

Try Swedish Glace. It's yummy, it's vegan (so no lactose), it comes in chocolate or vanilla flavour as well as raspberry and you can get it from health food shops or Waitrose.
