So okay. I got told how to change WoW servers today. But of course, characters don't carry over. Not that I'm overly fussed, because Gnome did not get very far on the random!server, but still. Anyway, instead of starting over on Bloodhoof as Mage!Gnome (though I'm going to, because, well, gnooooooome) I rolled up a Forsaken. Yeah, I know I said I didn't want to play Horde, but what the hell. If I was going to play a demon-summoning Warlock, I figured I may as well do it in an area where the demon-summoning types get some actual fucking respect. *g*

(Plus, it gets fun when the sentient humanoids you're throwing spells at get down to, like, 5%HP and then try to run away in abject terror. Eeeheehee.)

One minor problem, though: I'm having router issues. As in, the damn thing keeps resetting every few minutes.

Ever try to play a MMO when your connection keeps dropping every few minutes? Let's just say it's an ultimate pain in the arse. I'm glad I haven't been in groups or they'd have hated me. I don't know what's wrong with the damn thing, but it's got to be the connection because I bought a new router at the same time as I bought the stupid game that I'm having trouble playing because of the stupid connection issues. I have no. Fucking. Idea what the problem is at this point but I wish it'd fucking stop. I'm going to shut the router down overnight, I think; maybe it's just been running too hot lately. I dunno.

So therein lies the current frustration. How's y'all?

You can move characters across servers, but it costs money :(

Mwahahaha! Yeeeess. Come to the dark side...

*ahem*

Actually, I like the Horde quite a bit better. Then again, this is coming from someone whose main is a female orc, so I'm a bit biased. I've never understood the draw of gnomes, or the Alliance in general. Give me some noble cow people of the plains or Capoeira trolls any day.

In answer to your question: Yes, I too have dealt with the horror of a bad connection in an MMO. It is, I think, one of the three most frustrating things in the world.

...What are the other two most frustrating things in the world, in your view? *curious*

As far as Horde versus Alliance goes ... I default to White Hat. I can NPC Black Hats well enough (I think; haven't had any complaints, anyway) and I've played a couple of downright nasty characters (Solita the Clan Giovanni sociopath, for example; she was way fun), but mostly I'm comfortable with the heroic roles. As to why gnomes? It's the same principle as why I loved my TaruTaru, actually: tiny, cute and deadly appeals to me. Bouncing up to something ten times your size and one-shotting it - how is that not fun?

Er, really, "Three things" just sounds cool. The other two that are related to this are probably something along the lines of 1. Renting a dvd from the library that skips ONLY at the important bits and 2... I'll get back to you on two.

See, I've never seen the politics of Alliance vs. Horde as being just good vs. bad. They're motivated by different political goals, sure, and I know they've changed a lot since I stopped playing (CURSE YOU CATACLYSM) but really, I think the two groups could live together if it wasn't for their (totally understandable) biases.

Your Giovanni sounds pretty awesome. I once played in a Giovanni-only game. THAT was intense.

Ooh! Ooh! I've got one! Standing at an almost entirely open-air train platform and hearing the announcement that due to a signal failure, your train is delayed by a half-hour!

I honestly haven't played enough to get the politics. Though it seems like Cataclysm has mostly got all the factions, Alliance and Horde, mostly running around trying to fix the mess that some lunatics in their own factions caused.

Giovanni-only? Gads, that does sound intense. And yeah, Solita was fun. She was a sociopath before she got turned (aged 19, somewhere towards the end of the Depression) and her specialities were accountancy and interrogation (including torture). Last I played her, she was playing mind-games with the Setite sheriff (don't ask) and creeping almost everybody out. There were political reasons. Then the game tanked. Woe.

I initially went for Horde because I could make my troll look like a Nac Mac Feegle. It seemed as good a reason as any. :)

One thing I like about WoW is that while the Horde aren't as shiny light as the alliance, they aren't team evil either. There are far worse things out there than the Darkspear trolls.

...Oh man. They DO look like the Mac Feegles...

No. Hold on. I refuse to rejoin WoW just so I can name a Troll Warrior Crivens, or RobAnybody. Nope. Totally not going to do it. *ponders*
