Dreamed last night that I was on a cruise liner that was going down like the Titanic. Thankfully nothing like the Leo DiCaprio movie; just a mid-sized cruise ship like the one I went on with Mum and Nanny about nine years ago. Water was still killing cold, though. I woke up right around the time I was cursing myself for an idiot because I hadn't even thought to look for a lifeboat. I believe that you could safely file that one under the heading "anxiety dreams".

Still, I do feel somewhat better. My back is stiff (this would predominantly be due to the bad mattress, I'd figure, though part of it is equal measures bad chairs and Mrs Robinson's Bag Syndrome) and my sinuses have gone utterly fucking nuts, but I'm not quite so tired and listless and easy to piss off as I have been most of this week. Hopefully, despite the shopping excursion I'm going to have to take today and hauling myself all over Christendom for the next two days, I'll be ready to face next week as it comes.

Of course, it really irritates me that, despite reminding myself about this over lunch yesterday, I didn't manage to retain the concept of renewing my Oyster card in accessible memory. Which means I'm going to have to pay for the bus into Oakwood station before I can get that done, because Enfield Chase doesn't have the facilities for Oyster (or at least it didn't the last I recall). And of course, they've raised the fares. How are they raising fares again with no appreciable rise in service quality? And of course, Livingstone is talking about raising the fares again if he's not allowed to shove council tax up sky high. And yet there's no appreciable benefit of the gouging. I wouldn't mind paying the extra if there was anything at all to show for it, but there is SFA. I'm not sure I even want to know where the money's going.

I am so glad that the Little Welsh Boy isn't here to see what his beloved Red Ken is doing to this city. God, I remember watching the 1997 election with him; how excited he was when Tony Blair and New Labour won the day. And when Red Ken Livingstone with his newts got the mayoral seat in London, he was overjoyed. Now, of course, LWB is in New Zealand on one of his intercontinental jaunts (he wants to see the world before he settles down anywhere -- wonder if he's ever going to live in Japan for a year like he said he wanted to) and doesn't have to see the consequences of those things. C'est la vie, say the old folks; it goes to show you never can tell.

The exen have been out in force lately. Mail from LWB, and then [livejournal.com profile] gf2e -- his wife just had a baby, who's actually pretty adorable as newborns go. It's incredibly weird -- one ex is tromping around the world randomly and the other's married with child. Makes me wonder what happened to the other ones. Selah Dave, for example; last I heard he had a job and being a Mormon, and his family was typically insane. And then there's Carl. It's really mean and nasty to hope like anything that the lying, cheating, using, promiscuous son of a bitch has herpes, right? I should probably just hope he's cleaned up his act in regards to how many women he sees at any given time.

So far as I can tell, my sourcebooks haven't arrived yet. Bum. That's a point; must ask [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 for a copy of the mailbox key (or maybe just take his) if I'm going to be the first one home in the evenings from now on. I do get some post, y'know...

[Edit: Four to six weeks for my Amazon order? God-fucking-damnit! Oh well; I'm just going to have to hang onto [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo's Book of Madness for awhile longer and anything about the other thing, I'll just have to wing it. Having everything I want be out of print is the world's biggest bastard, you realise!]

Right. I really should get dressed and get a start to the day. Shopping (Kat's birthday present -- argh! Work clothes -- double argh!), haircut (I think I've decided what I'm going to have done, but I won't pass final judgement until I'm in the chair), then Dublin Castle for drinks and finally meeting [livejournal.com profile] kixie, one of my first random LJ friends. Busy busy busy day.

Actually, that's not Lain, though that's the anime she's from. So in order:

Chiisa -- Serial Experiments: Lain
Thessaly -- Sandman, The Thessaliad, Thessaly: Witch for Hire
Kuramori -- Haibane Renmei
Daria -- Beavis & Butt-Head, Daria
Yomi -- Azumanga Daioh

Aha yes,
I knew it wasn't Lain herself, but couldn't remember the name.
(not a suprise when she is off a roof in the first three seconds :-)
Should have spotted Kuramori though, top series that was.
Don't know Yomi, will have a look.

Cheers. :-)

I have Azumanga Daioh on some form of CD burn; I think it has to be watched on the computer but not sure what programme it should use. There's also the manga issue 1 and I think it's [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo and [livejournal.com profile] weaselbitch who have that one. It's on the Mountain O'Literature somewhere.

I think we can live without Book of Madness for a while.

I had a similar problem with Amazon a while back - somehow a Kristin Hersh album that's only ten years old or so went from "3-5 days" to "3-5 weeks" to "out of print, why do you keep asking?" (well, not literally, but you know the kind of message they have on there).

Irritating.

I appreciate it, really. It's still, as you say, irritating!
