My right hand is having intermittent stabs of pain. My left hand is throbbing slightly. Yet I have Dr Propper's clinic tape and 4996 words to go on the NaNoWriMo. Maybe [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 was right -- I finish this, and then my hands fall off.

Ow.

In other news, I am going to try to track down a roll & keep version of the bloody Explorers' Society book (because God help me I cannot read the d20 rules without my head blowing up). Also the Vendel/Vesten book. I'd ideally love to play a sorcerer (though I am getting a little sick of [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 telling me that the rules are broken for any magic but the Bargainer's Arts) but I can't play a Strega because that's stepping on Andy P's toes, I can't play Porte mage because a) that's [livejournal.com profile] cholten99's thing and b) it's boring, I can't play Zerstorung because I can't think of a good enough excuse and I can't play El Fuego Adentro because no one will let me (though I can actually think of a halfway decent reason that an El Fuego Adentro mage would want to be a member of the Explorers' Society). This leaves me with Glamour, Pyreym or Laerdom, and Christ am I fed up with playing Avalons. Or pseudo-Avalons. So, since I can't play the El Fuego Explorer I would ideally love to try out, I figure I'll at least take a stab at rolling up a rune mage. It probably won't work out -- I really haven't got the time to roll up yet another character anyway -- and I'll wind up playing my poor weedy scholar again. Whoopee.

Then sushi. All on my lonesome. Bwah. Then home to get at least another 2000 words down.

What's wrong with D20 rules? (Not that I know 7th Sea and whether they've butchered the rules there).

I never actually played straight D&D, so I don't know if the rules system works okay there, or even if the Swashbuckling Adventures (7th Sea D20) system works when applied across the board. It's just that when you're trying to fish roll & keep rules, costs and miscellany out of a book designed for people playing the D20 system, it's not exactly like falling off a log.

Hiya,
Quick note to tell you there is no pure roll & keep Explorer's book I'm afraid.
There was a three part version in the Erebus cross adventure. But it isn't of much use, and anything that is should be in the new book.

If you are thinking of doing a sorcerer, and an explorer, then Ussuran Pyerem is rather good.
It is also one of the best sorceries at apprentice level. Sorte and Zerstorung are not so good at low level, and El Fuego sorcerers are hunted by the inquisition as 'loose ends' so I'm not sure you want to go there again!:-)
and lastly, the rules for non-bargainers are not broken. Glamour and laerdom depend on the knacks you pick, but as such are also very versatile.

Of course it is up the GM about playing sorcerers,
which this time isn't me!

Explorers' Society Book: Damn! I can't make heads or tails of the Swashbuckling Adventures thing Toos loaned me the other week. So much for that idea.

Sorcerers: It's not that I personally think the non-bargainers' rules are broken, it's that [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 does, and you know what he's like for expressing an opinion. This is also the reason I don't want to play an Ussuran -- conversations that start with, "Well, when I was reading the Ussura book..."

As for the rest of it, I'm sick of playing Avalons and I don't want to do something that's been done during my time in game, which lets out Glamour, Porte and Sorte. I also don't want to be a nuisance to play so I'm not pushing for El Fuego Adentro, and I'm not really interested in being an Entropy mage. ^_^ Laerdom's tempting, but at this rate I just can't be bothered.

Inquisition: Oh, bother the Inquisition. If I was going to be afraid of the Inquisition, I wouldn't play. Anyway, the two characters I already have aren't exactly in the Inquisition's good books either, so what difference is it going to make? ^_^

If you are thinking of doing something different,
how about the Midnight Archepeligo?

Plenty of people are born and brought up there,
and the Explorers are the most likly to pick up a new recruit who wants to see the world.
(as the place is full of syrneth ruins)

You could play one of the tribal people who has become 'civilised' or one of the many colonists (mostly Castillian stock) that live on the islands, or the child of mixed parents looking to see what their Thean side is like.

The racial bonus is +1 Brawn I believe, but I'd have to check, and if want a hint of sorcery the character could know about the voodoo style tribal sorceries (that do work).
