I was going to avoid talking about this, but this is my damn journal and if it's going to cause problems, well ... scroll on, MacDuff.
After my little walkabout, I got mail from
happypickle, telling me that Shelby had my number and would be in touch. When I finally went up to my room to pick up cash and notes and stuff, I found a message saying to call her (and number) taped to my door. Which I duly did, and she came by the hostel.
We caught up over gelato at that bright green monstrosity on the corner of Broadway and Columbus, mostly talking about weird food and what I got up to at the anime faire, and then I went with her to see her flat. Which is nice, in a "God, I wish my studio had been this tidy" kind of way. I'm a little freaked out by the level of security, but I actually hostelled in that area and I can't say I actually blame them. And she seems happy, which is the important thing.
Now, I feel kind of bad because we were kind of at a loss for what to say at times so it wound up me going into full Storyteller mode ... literally. I went step-by-step through my Mage campaign, which wasn't easy since she didn't know the Mageverse from a hole in a tree, but she says I explained it well and she didn't seem bored or anything. As usual, she tried to be uberhostess, which was sweet, but really not necessary. Nice to see not much has changed.
I might organise a date to see her later in the week; depends on whether she has school or not whether it'll be Wednesday or Thursday. Of course, it also depends on what else comes up. If
nightskywarlock is equal to coming by or even actually wants to, that's cool too. I can juggle. This is not a problem.
I had a good time, despite everything. I still want to go home, but there's hope for this holiday after all.
