Beast of Burden

It's amazing, but I don't hate my job.
Patient rang up, upset -- fairly common occurrence in my job. This one harangued me for a half-hour before I could finally give him the information he was asking for ... which turned out to be exactly what he wanted to hear, funnily enough. If he'd been calm and asked me what he wanted in the first place, this would have been a lot easier.
He apologised. Sort of. Said something about, "You're my contact; you're the only one I have to have a go at". Like having a go is his God-given right and I shouldn't mind being verbally whipped for no good reason because it's part of my job. The sad thing is, I guess it is, to a point.
And if Violet has it right, so does being the overflow trap for the office typing. Violet turned up and asked me, "How are you fixed for work?" Then just looked at me as I explained the filing I had to do, the office tidy I was in the middle of, the chasing of that bloody fucking stupid registrar I had to engage in... And then she just kept looking at me, like she hadn't heard a single word I said, and more, had made a concerted effort not to. I could tell she wasn't going to give up and go away until I told her I'd do some of Kate's fucking typing. So I did.
This is ridiculous. I get loaded up like a dray-horse, and I get whipped like one, too.
As I said, isn't it funny that I don't hate my job?
