I don't think there's such a thing as a trouble-free dinner with my mother. I think I'll leave out all the general whingeness about jobs and money and whether or not she's going to sponsor me in jobs in medical insurance; I've had my moan about that elsewhere.

Anyway, it wasn't all bad, never mind that at the end of it I felt like an underachieving freak. Rather than having a complete freak-out about my hair, she actually rather liked the colour. Now, you know you're thinking too much like a RPG fanatic when instant justification springs to mind in tight situations. My justification for the hair and likely keeping it red was "Well, if I'm going to keep my hair long, it'd be nice to make it look more impressive." I basically let her believe I thought my hair too mousy and not only is she cool with it, but she's paying to have it professionally coloured when we're in Montreal. Go, me.

Speaking of RPG. Got home to a nearly indecipherable voicemail from Mad-as-a-fish. I got his name, something about today and the word "e-mail". Rang [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 to see if he knew what was going on and he apparently didn't; not from our esteemed GM directly, anyway. (Which sucks because I did ask the bloody GM to ring my beloved boyfriend if plan changes happened after 5:30 or so in order for me to have someone to check in with.) What he did know was that Toos rang and asked for a lift to Kat and Mark's, and that we're apparently playing 7th Sea tonight instead of Star Trek. Gah. This basically leaves me with the rest of the day to write up Aidan's journal from last week. Also do the day's work, figure out what I'm going to do about dinner, ring my beloved boyfriend in order to get collected from Golders Green station, and hope like hell that I can actually get home and to bed at a decent hour tonight.

Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans, I've heard it said. In that vein, RPG is what happens to you when you're having other clusterfucks.

Heh. That reminds me, mustn't forget I'm playing in a D&D game tomorrow as my evil rogue/assassin...it ain't much, but it's all I have right now.

Aside from bugging my online friends, that is :-P

Could be worse -- at least you're not doomed to play characters geekier than you are.

I would point out that that's because it's probably not possible! :-)

...Oh yeah. Good point. ^_^

On the other hand, I have these sort of latent geek tendencies that a lot of my friends try to draw out of me and mostly I don't get it (maths is the devil) but then I'm asked to roll up a 7th Sea character and who do I come up with? Aidan -- Tinker-knack-bearing Invisible Collegiate geek.

When discussing the Star Trek RPG, Mad-as-a-fish said that races other than the standard human/Vulcan/Betazoid/etc were fine so long as one didn't go for the all-powerful bastards -- examples were Founders, Q ... and Borg.

My response: "Too late, my friend. I was already assimilated a looooooong time ago."

One of us...
One of us...

Okay, I'm going to stop now before I surpass my own previous geekiness record...

Wow. I can catalyse geekiness in others! It's a brand new super-power! *snerk*

Believe me, it doesn't take much.

Probably why I don't have a social life....Ah well.

"Very sad life. Probably have very sad death, but at least there is symmetry."

Points for getting the quote... :-)

Yeah, but I just realised that I'm not going to be one of those people who has to have their roots done every so often. Bollocks.
