No Worries

*phew* I feel ever so much better now. I dunno what happened yesterday, but whatever it was seems to have died down. I probably just had a case of cold-stiffened muscles -- happens to the best of us.
Anyway, this weekend I intend on spending at home with a good dose of anime and "Firefly". Oh, except for Sunday, when, depending on whether I get directions on how to find these gaming people, I sit in on a round of "7th Sea". I may get some writing done but that depends on research and arm strength.
One thing concerns me, though -- shouldn't I really be reading the manga of Akira before watching the film? Then again, given how many books there are and how expensive each one is, I might not ever get the story finished...

Hope you find the gamers...
*bounces around the room* I've taaaaaaken the afternoon off, and I'm going to have a brilliant time this weekend.

I was lucky enough to have read the manga before seeing the anime, so even though it was a VHS bootleg in unsubtitled Japanese (at an anime club in Sarasota [*]), I followed it better than a lot of people who later saw it translated into their native English (at least, so it would seem from the reviews I've read). Your mileage may vary, of course, and for all I know, the DVD's special features will compensate for you not getting to read the manga beforehand.

(* This was in 1989, when the way you watched anime was either in raw Japanese with no subtitles to help you or in a dub whose caliber could range from Star Blazers to Tranzor Z.)
Akira Manga
Date: 2003-10-17 06:39 pm (UTC)1) It's huge and I'd never get my DVD back!! :-)
2) The plot is (I believe 5 or 6 times what's in the film and therefore the film won't feel anywhere near as good).
3) (2) Change plot for quality.
I've not read the manga but I've heard only good things about it.
Call you tomorrow about the game.
