Time For Some Thrillin' Heroics
Dec. 11th, 2006 02:11 amWow, how appropriate is my predominant Firefly icon today?
So there's Flanvention. Big-deal event for Browncoats (Firefly fans, for those of you not in the know). Happened in 2005, and everyone had a blast, so Booster Events were going to do it again this year. Unfortunately, Booster Events cancelled the whole thing ... the day before the con, when everyone was already on their way, having spent hundreds of dollars for tickets (never mind travel expenses). After a couple of rather spurious-sounding problems (never confirming the attendance of some of the guests, 'financial problems' etc). Booster Events, she has some 'splainin' to do...
However, this is not why the Big Damn Heroes icon is appropriate. The reason that it's appropriate is that the cast turned up regardless of not receiving the general autograph-and-appearance fees. Alan Tudyk, Ron Glass, Morena Baccarin and Michael Fairman (Niska) weren't even supposed to show and they turned up. Nathan Fillion handed out Firefly memorabilia and stuff, and the conners got shunted off to somewhere private to do the proper con thing, completely ad hoc. And then, if that weren't enough, Clare 'Glorificus' Kramer opened her new restaurant a couple of weeks early and they all got to party.
Damn. Can I just say that my fandom contains some of the most gracious, generous and all-out fabulous actors ever?
What does this make them? See icon.
