Buffy Debate 1: Episodes We Skip
Feb. 7th, 2006 04:03 pmI am becoming a very nocturnal creature now that I'm on holiday. This is not exactly by choice, but never mind. Tonight I dose myself with herbal Nytol and get to bed before 1 am, hopefully to sleep. I'd actually like to see the outside of the house for some reason other than trips out for smokes before the end of my holiday. Feh.
My hedge maze Sims 2 lot got accepted by Mod the Sims 2, and so far people seem to have liked it. Thanked 24 times in one post, and that's with it only having been up 12 hours. Not bad, all things considered.
Watching Buffy S7; we went through S6 as dinner entertainment for a fair bit of last week. Got to say, though, whatever people say about S7, I think it was worth it for "Conversations With Dead People" alone. Of course, "Selfless" rocked pretty hard too -- I do like Anya. One thing I have noticed, though, is that for every season, there's one episode I feel compelled to skip. In S7, for example, the one I skip is "Him"; obsessive love to the insanity over some jock with a charmed jacket? Seriously, blech. S6? "Doublemeat Palace", no question. "Doublemeat is People!" Bleh. S5, it's a toss-up between "Buffy Vs Dracula" or "Triangle"; neither seem to have much place in the incredible overarching storyline and the bits they do add are nothing a 'Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer' montage can't clue us in on. S4 -- "Superstar". I know people thought it was clever, and I liked the ending, but most of it was just painful. S3's sort of where it all falls down; I don't feel a need to skip any of them, though the one I would if I wanted to move things along would be "Amends" -- Sad Slayer in snow, yeesh. In S2, I tend to skip "Some Assembly Required", and in S1 ... well, "Teacher's Pet" just doesn't do it for me. It's an early intro into Xander's tendency to fall for demons and vice versa, but they do tend to drive that joke into the ground, and "Inca Mummy Girl" in the next season is so much better done.
Of course, I know people disagree with me. I know
cholten99, for instance, lists "Superstar" as one of his favourite eps ever. So responses in comments, please. If your favourite episode is up there, defend its greatness. If you'd like to make some additions to the list, feel free. We encourage debate.
