Job Lots Revisited

I am reminded now why sometimes, FFXI is more of a frustration than a fun hobby.
Last night, I decided that I would put up my party flag and try to level up WHM. After all, there's a lot of stuff I need to get done that I can't do at my level without a lot of help. Not to mention that if I was going to try hacking through Raungemont Pass on my own, the extra HP/MP would only help. And so I put up my party flag and got invited to, of all places, Garlaige Citadel.
Now, technically speaking, this is not a bad place for a party of about our level. Still, there are some issues with Garlaige Citadel. Main one? Getting there. It took me awhile to work out that those towers in Sauromugue Champaign aren't actually entrances to the Citadel the way the hill-caves in Batallia Downs are all entrances to the Necropolis. (Plus I got the Citadel and the Necropolis mixed up, so had to ride the long way 'round from Batallia to Sauromugue anyway.) So it took me longer than I'd have liked to get to the entrance to Garlaige. On the way, I got my party invite and noted that one of our party was already dead, so I needed to hurry to get there before their time to be Raised ran out.
Then I fell down a hole.
...Yeah.
See, I move rather quickly on my teeny Taru legs, and it never occurred to anyone making those damnable maps to point out that, when it comes to the floor, "There was a hole here once. It's still here, and you can fall down it". So I'm merrily pootling along and whoop! I'm falling. And now I'm down a hole. And there are really nasty things down here, which thankfully ignore me because I have Sneak and Invisible up and there's a party down here anyway so all I have to do is pootle my way back up that flight of stairs I happened to notice. And I was so busy making sure Sneak and Invisible were up and that I didn't go the wrong way or fall down any other holes that I somehow missed the party lead saying she'd come look for me, or I'd have mentioned that, no, actually, I'll find my way to you, don't worry. And I therefore got bitched at for the 'waste' of two prism powders and a silent oil that ensued from the party lead coming to look for the lost WHM. Tit.
Anyway, I Raised the party Red Mage (teeny little Taru) and looked the party over. There was me, of course; the teeny little Taru RDM; another Taru, this one Thief. One Mithra Ranger, one Dark Knight/Dancer hybrid (WTF?) and another Hume, this one Ninja/Warrior. Okay, this already looks bad, to be honest. We've got no decent damage dealers, which means that if I have to throw a lot of Cures, I'm going to be taking a lot of hate. And incidentally, I did have to throw a lot of Cures because the NIN couldn't keep her shadows up and her armour sucked. The DDs (if you can call them that) were not laying down a lot of damage because our front line was a DRK, a NIN and a Tarutaru THF. The RDM took worse hate than I did and died at least once more, and the DRK died twice. At which point the two Humes and the Mithra decided that we weren't getting anywhere, that we should've gone to Crawler's Nest (which is where I expected to be partying in the first place, as that's where levels 35-38 tend to go), and disbanded. Leaving three teeny tiny Taru in the middle of Garlaige Citadel. I referred to us as "the hardcore Tarus", and got laughs. Then I figured that we really weren't going to get anywhere and disbanded myself. I was going to do the quest for the Tele-Holla scroll (or maybe it's the Tele-Dem scroll - one of the ones I already have but can sell at the AH for good gil, anyway) but got aggro off a Borer Beetle and just warped out. Then I got a request to Tele-Holla a bunch of people and figured that since I was so near San d'Oria, I'd do the next bit of stuff I needed to do for the Dancer flag quest. Got that done, and that was last night. Whoopee.
Today, I did some fishing. Managed to get level 18 and a stack of Cheval salmon, as well as a few stacks of moat carp for that oik in San d'Oria - I have no idea how many carp I need to give that guy before I get my Lu Shang rod, but it can't be soon enough, as far as I'm concerned. After that, since I was in the area, I decided to brave Raungemont Pass in the hopes of getting to Beaucedine Glacier and get my ice weather for the Summoner flag quest. That didn't go very well as I didn't remember the directions properly and got lost in a room full of monsters that could quite easily kick my arse. Not recommended, to say the very, very least. I didn't die or anything - I just Warped out and decided to log out, get some map directions and try again. I also wrote down some directions for getting to Jugner-as-was so I can finish off the Dancer quest. So the general order in which I'm going to do all this stuff:
1) Pootle out to The Past, run like buggery until I get to the spot I need to get to in Jugner-as-was, get my stupid Shining Pebble or whatever the hell it is I'm supposed to be getting, run some more until I get to East-Ronfaure-as-was, grab a Gaping Maw out to civilised areas where nothing's going to aggro me and rest to get my MP back.
2) Dash through Raungemont Pass, get to Beaucedine Glacier and stay there until I get my damned ice weather. Because bugger me if I'm going to get my Vahzl crystal given that I have no freakin' map of Beaucedine Glacier either...
3) Warp back to Jeuno so I can unlock Dancer, and incidentally beg a Tele-Altep so I can get my heat weather. It's either that or actually just run through Korroloka Tunnel now that I have the map for it and spare myself the Tele fees. I need to actually do the quest for my Tele-Altep scroll anyway, as I'm getting up to the point where I could actually use it, and a stop in Bastok for the bug broth grind wouldn't go amiss.
And somewhere in there, level White Mage. I should check out what spells I need to pick up, thinking about it. Yeesh, sometimes this game gets costly.
Tonight, I am going to be cooking nice dinner, and then ... I dunno. I need to talk to
trishiekaty about research rolls, but beyond that and the cooking, the evening's my own. I suppose I also ought to do the washing up, but I still feel crappy and am so much not in the mood. Then again, it's not like
dodgyhoodoo ever really is, so ... eh, I'll see how I feel in a few minutes.
