So I went back to the Dunes. I put up my party flag. *bing* Instant party invite. They're in Siren Sands. Not far away, close to the Selbina zoneline without being too close, rather near where my first party was, actually. So off I yomp, and manage to get there without catching aggro or getting lost. (The Dunes is nothing but white sand for the most part. It's kind of tricky to work out which patch of sand you're actually on when you can't see the landscape. I really need to do something about my screen contrast.) And they're all talking about going to the secret beach. And I am going, "NO! GODS, NO!" I swear to myself at that point that if that lot hit the secret beach, I'm disbanding, end of statement. NOT AGAIN. I want to be nice and close to Selbina, and to Ghoul spawn points. I want that magicked skull, godsdamnit!

The point is moot, because we stay where we are and, after a brief debate, someone goes off and pulls a Pugil. Someone's not making effective use of Provoke. Other people are laying down an awful lot of misses, so the mages get more hate than they should. So the mages get hit a lot. When mages get hit a lot, particularly Taru mages, they die. So do idiots who can't use Provoke. So our two mages and the tank all die. There are power levellers about, and they kindly Raise us. However, so newly Raised, the Raise Effect is on. Which means we're weak. And does the puller, sensible soul that he is, decide to wait until the three weakened players get over the Raise Effect and heal before he pulls something else?

Of course not. Cue death number two for half the party. Leader leaves. New leader is moron who can't use Provoke. Cue death number three. Then leadership switches to a Galka monk who seems to know what he's doing. Then the White Mage leaves. We replace her (and, unfortunately, the damn Galka) with a couple of new mages - red and blue, not white. FUCK. Still, it could work. And did, eventually, even though the new party leader after the Galka left was, you guessed it, back to the moron who can't use Provoke. We also got a new puller, and that worked out okay, and we finally started earning some damn exp. Then the moron who can't use Provoke left and we got a new tank - a Ninja this time, and a skilled one at that.

I asked if we could pull a Ghoul - I still needed that skull. But as we're fighting Pugil, not one but two Ghouls aggro other members of the party. Thankfully, nobody died this time, and we got the skull. Then I lotted for it and won, hu-freakin-zah! And at that point, the exp was finally flowing freely and I levelled up to 20. No more Dunes for awhile, hu-freakin-zah! Now all I have to do is this one quest in Selbina, cross the Dunes and a couple of other levels to get to Bastok, set my subjob, do my quests, level WHM, get my spells up to date, then head for Jeuno for a chocobo licence and Qufim, which is apparently where the level 20s go to exp.

In other news, it looks like my mother is taking me on a spa day next week. That should be nice; pampering would be a good thing. This weekend, though, it's just going to be watching The Secretary, eating whatever I can stomach (probably not much, but hey) and the whole FFXI thing. RP tends to be slow over the weekends - okay, RP tends to be slow all the time, but nonexistent on weekends when the guy I generally RP with isn't playing from work.

Oh, and of course, not Sunday! Sunday's when we go back to Restart for awhile. Endgame cometh and that right early! Then I can run something else. Yay!

[Edit: Oh, and boss says my sick leave certificate arrived today. Which means, huzzah, no more worrying about whether or not my pay's going to be suspended. So Monday is still payday. Oh, and note to self? Respond to mother's e-mail about the spa day thing saying that lunch sounds fine if it's late but shopping might be tiring for me, given.]
