And so, since it's been awhile (and since I'm bored), the further adventures of Satomi the fearless death gnome.

I have new spells. No, seriously, my new spells kick the most extreme amount of arse. One of them I didn't even have to pay for, as it was dropped by a Yagudo Scribe I battered to death just outside an outpost in East Sarutabaruta. So I can currently drop one of those goblin fucks in a single hit of Aero and a smack with my new staff. Oh yeah. Now that I've hit lvl 11, I can use my nice holly staff. Rarabs go down in two smacks with that thing. *glee* Now all I need to do is go out and murder enough goblin fucks to pick up some wild onions and finish that quest for the Blaze Spikes spell. Moo. Hoo. Ha. Ha.

I also seem to be picking up a fair few White Mage spells. I am keeping most of these (with the exception of the constant duplications of Paralyse), as I would like to pick up White Mage as a subjob when I reach lvl 18 as a Black Mage (seven levels to go, and halfway through lvl 11!). I should probably level that a few times. Go back to the halcyon days of bashing Tiny Mandragoras instead of the big ones. Still, I'm not sure what that would do to my stats and what weapons I can use. Plus I dropped my Taru Clomps somewhere in West Sarutabaruta because I forgot to drop them in my Mog house when I picked up the nice new boots and then ran out of space in my inventory. So if I went from lvl 11 death gnome to lvl 1 life gnome, I'd probably have to go buy a pair of lvl 1 shoes. (At least I kept the original shirt when I bought the shiny new mage robe.) Still, with somewhere in the region of 2000 gil stockpiled, I'm pretty sure that's not going to be an issue. Plus I'm not seeing how my score on, say, combat with staff or evasion will drop just because I'm picking up a new job, and the same goes for magical ability. So I get to keep my 21 in Evasion and Staff skills, my 24 or so in Elemental Magic, and the rest. Upping WHM a few levels should be no problem, particularly when I get to ditch the old base level onion staff and use the ash one I held on to in case I delevel before reaching the safe zone of lvl 12.

Yeah, the main problem with having shiny new weapons is that you're on a bit of a knife-edge at times. See, I bought the holly staff by accident, not having looked at what level you need before you can use it. Turns out it's a lvl 11 staff. So now I can use it. But then comes the fear - you go out, you batter things, you obtain lvl 11. You go back to your Mog house, you pick up your new staff, you go back to the killing fields ... and a run of bad luck gets you squished by a particularly tenacious Crawler and you delevel. No new staff for you. So while I did go and claim my new staff immediately upon receiving lvl 11, I was particularly careful to take on only such things as I knew I could handle until I hit something like 800 XP towards lvl 12, so that if I died, I was unlikely to delevel. Came close a time or two, though. Mostly due to the Pug Pigils. I hate those fucking things. Still, they're a good wodge of XP and a combination of Bind, Poison, Aero and Stone works wonders.

So yeah, every so often, the relative quiet of Sourcebook Central 2.0 will be shattered with a cry of, "Ha-HA! Die, you feathery fucks! Death to the Yagudo! All hail Satomi Deathgnome!" It's a thing to do.

In less martial matters, I am also improving slowly. Level 3 fishing, level 2 cooking, level 1 clothcraft. Crystals break less now ... depending on what I'm doing with them. And on the whole, the gil I get from turning Yagudo necklaces into squares of grass cloth (or bone chips into hairpins, or goblin masks into squares of leather, or crayfish into bait) is handy. And in terms of gil, I am finding that Crawlers are basically the most lucrative kill. Not only do they occasionally drop silk thread which goes for something like 260-280 gil per spool at the Clothcrafters' Guild, but they also drop crawler calculi. These are not lucrative on their own, but if you trade them to this Mithra chick at the dartha paddocks, you get 600 gil for every three you trade in. Hence I am a relatively wealthy little deathgnome.

Oh, yeah, and I'm already spotting the people who are where I was a couple of weeks ago. I was out fishing in West Sarutabaruta, and there's this little Taru WHM behind me, getting his arse kicked by river crabs. I fished up a crab of my own and was duking it out with it (as you do) and won, though I took some damage ... and this little guy starts healing me. Over and over again. Um ... dude? I can just sit down and heal. Still, it was nice of him, so I thanked him kindly and we went back to what we were doing. So he keeps randomly battering small things and I keep fishing, and next thing I know, there is the triumphant music: "[NewKid] has reached Level 4!"

...Awwwwww. How cute!

I was on my way out anyway, so I packed in the fishing line, cheered in his general direction (he bowed) and moved on to kill something bigger. Though I did off a river crab with one judiciously cast spell just to prove I could. I am a show-off sometimes... But at least it gives the new guy something to aspire to.

In short, my deathgnome rocks, thanks for asking. And I still need a deathgnome icon!
