Yeah, that one did turn out reasonably accurate. I'm betting I can accurately guess how some of my friends' will turn out...

The other thing ... well, corone has plugged the World of Darkness Novel Contest again. I believe I made my feelings on the matter perfectly clear; I think it's rigged in a fairly serious way, and it galls me that anything I do write could be used for someone else's benefit and there wouldn't be a damn thing I could do about it. The idea that I could write a short synopsis and someone else could use it to produce total and complete tripe just ... gah. Besides which, I'm no good at writing synopses. At least I don't think I'm any good at writing synopses. Normally I just throw myself in somewhere and write, or I make notes. Lots and lots of notes. Which I suppose you could glom together into a synopsis if you tried hard enough. Still, the riggedness and limitations... It's offputting.

However.

I've been bitching for weeks about not being able to write. "I need a deadline," I've said; "A deadline, a project, something to get me started again". This is something, isn't it? I have absolutely no right to whine and complain about not being able to get going while ignoring a project staring me right in the face. Fine, I don't like how it's being run. Fine, it's probably going to involve buying a copy of Vampire: The Requiem and World of Darkness as research material, but I was going to do that anyway. (I might never play it, but you never know.) Fine, I might not even submit, and showing the synopsis to friends is up for debate -- on the one hand, they know the WoD better than I ever will and could make great sounding boards; on the other hand, I'd rather not run the risk of showing people whose opinions I value just how much my writing can suck. Still, the fact remains that it is a project, and it's a challenge, and it's about time I stopped fart-arsing around and actually did something.

So thank you, corone, for flagging this back up again. I kind of needed the kick-start.

Actually, yes. I think most of my friends would have a high percentage rating in Mindfuck, but a lot of them will get top ranking in Artistic, Sci-Fi/Fantasy or Mindless Action Flick. There may even be a couple of Romantic Comedy buffs in my friends list. ^_^

I think I rather wasted my money on 'Requiem'. I'm just waiting to see what they've done to Mage.

They're both pretty good actually. I hated the old Vamp game, and hated the teasers for Requiem even more, so I was uncomfortably impressed when they turned out a game that looked playable. As for WoD2, I was going to be running a brief survival horror game with it if the usual suspects were interested and we could get a slot for the thing.

Mage 2: fuck only knows, they're saying nowt, and the fanboys are pointing in all the wrong directions as far as I'm concerned...

I haven't worked out a way to phonetically render that sound I make when I'm caught somewhere between frustration, gratitude and politeness, so assume I'm making it before this next paragraph.

Thank you. I may take you up on it in the short term at least (after all, I get them at least two days quicker that way, which is two days in which to research and write). However, in the long term, I would still like to own them. That way, I don't have the guilt. Besides, what's the point of being a roleplaying geek if you don't own far too many sourcebooks?

As for Mage, I've heard a sort of a half-theory but not much else. I never did get into 'industry' gossip.
