I spent a year working opposite a Britney Spears fan. This being a 20 year old male, you might expect a "mute and stare" fan type, but no. He actually liked the music.... that and the other musical hell of that year - Radio 1. Not the good bits (Jo Whiley, John Peel), but a year of Mark and Lard. I want their heads on spikes. Hung, drawn and quartered would be too good for them. This all being off a device that was not quite a radio (in a BBC office, and actually a direct feed from studios) and so there wasn't really any other choice of station.
OTOH, I got to see Gomez that year, so life wasn't so bad.
