thessalianI have to be at Occupational Health at 2:30. To avoid thinking about that, I will now discuss hockey.
No Habs game yesterday, but I was gratified to note that the Sharks won theirs last night. Even if it was against the Phoenix Coyotes.
Also noted that the Boston Bruins got slaughtered by the Red Wings, 9 to 0. Eesh, that has to have sucked. I didn't check but if it was Thornton in net last night, he has a lot to answer for. Actually, so does the rest of the team, thinking about it. I mean, shut-outs are one thing, but that's ridiculous.
This leads me to wonder if Thornton's got new pads yet, actually. Even though he left the Habs for the Bruins years ago, he still wears pads in the Habs colours, apparently because they've got good balance. But come on -- Habs-coloured pads with the wasp-from-hell uniform of the Bruins ... it just doesn't strike fear into the hearts of oncoming centre forwards. And when they're playing Montreal at home, it becomes something of a joke. Hence the 11 Feb 3-1 victory. Well, that and some damn fine work from rookie Garon in net. Yeah, I have a thing about goalies, shut up. I mean, if Kiprusoff can replace Nabokov in a playoff game and still manage a shutout when he's logged about 20 minutes of playing time in his whole career, then it stands to reason that the big guy who apparently just stands in front of the net has got to be worth a lot more than he seems. Besides, you really miss him when he's gone, which is why I hate it when they play the empty net tactic. That's end-of-your-seat nailbiting stuff of the not-fun variety when it's your team doing it. I don't care how much you think you need that 6th man on the ice to break that tie -- you do not take your goalie out ever. Particularly not if you can't use your one-man advantage in a penalty situation. There's no percentage in it, and the team that's good on penalty kill suddenly has a lot more net to shoot at.
Okay, I think that's enough. Goalies and what they're good for is something I could talk about all day if you let me. And you can't stop me from where you are so I guess I'd better do it myself.
