Day 14 - Favorite male character
Jun. 20th, 2010 01:49 pmThis is not an easy question. As I am not as dedicated as
lithiumdoll, I cannot go through the Top Trumps thing and pick a favourite male character that way. And there are way too many male characters of Awesome to make this an easy thing. I suspect, with great regret, that I will find it easier to deal with tomorrow's topic, just because there are fewer female characters of Awesome (and indeed female characters in general) to deal with.
So today, leaving aside Owen Harper and Wesley Wyndam-Price and Spike and Dr 'Ducky' Mallard ... I'm going to go for Ivan from Being Human, S2.
There's a reason I'm going for Ivan instead of Herrick. Herrick is, I admit, all manner of awesome, but he's awesome in a relatively limited way. We don't get to see why he vamped Carla, and while his past is a tapestry of potential freakin' awesome, his world domination plot seems to consume him so utterly that his awesome sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. Ivan, on the other hand...
Look. Ivan's idea of wooing is "Come see the world ... and fuck". While George accuses Ivan of only wanting Daisy as 'a portable fuck', there's indication towards the end that Ivan really cares for her. "I have my Daisy. Everyone should have a Daisy", he says. He wants to understand the things she does and her moods; maybe he doesn't care who she screws, but he does care what she feels. He claims to serve no master but his own amusement but steps up to do things that go against his nature ... while working the system so that he can play the part of going against his nature without actually doing so. Plus there's something about a vampire who not only isn't a brooding sulking sparkling emotionally damaged fuckwit but is savvy enough to be able to gather an entire group of vampires on very short notice because "most of them are on my Twitter feed". In that, he kicks Spike's arse.
So finally I have found a well-rounded vampire with a grasp of the modern, a total lack of simpering over the female of the species, and minimal to non-existent angst. So he's my favourite, because he is unique.HE'S MINE AND YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM. ...*ahem*
