Haven't had a lot to say of late - the job's been a bit slow owing to my bosses barely being in all week, so really not a whole lot of interest to say there. And obviously I haven't been injured in any car-bombings, as nothing actually properly blew up. I think it fazes some of the people I know that I am pretty much entirely inured to the threats and mostly not all that shocked when things actually do go bang. *shrug* I guess London's rubbing off on me.

Oh, and Doctor Who last night. Not that I watched it, except in bits, but listening to [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo hollering about, "NOT A FUCKING MING RING!" was rather amusing, on the whole. Honestly, I think listening to [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo rant when it all falls down is my favourite part of Doctor Who right now. I like Hoodoo-rantage. And really? My current icon says it all, though I agree that [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo has a point about how if we'd seen "Rose" first, crackweaselly as the Doctor was in that one, we might not have much bothered with the rest, or liked Eccleston as much as we did when we started with "Dalek". I suppose "Rose" is a fair case towards something [livejournal.com profile] aberranteyes said to me the other day, about how RTD wanted Tennant from the beginning but Tennant was busy being Barty Crouch, Jr at the time. Which ... you know, I'm glad about, because I thought Tennant made a great Barty Crouch, Jr and also because I don't think he could have pulled off episodes like "Father's Day" or "The Doctor Dances" or ... well, any of the ones I loved the most as well as Eccleston did.

Honestly, though, part of the reason I wasn't watching "Last of the Time Lords" last night was because of mass ST-run sceneage starting at 6pm. I mean, not only was it plot stuff, but some of my favourite people were on and playing - [livejournal.com profile] tithenai with her shiny new mage and the long-too-busy-to-play [livejournal.com profile] darkdanc3r, both in their first ST-run scene. Now, as there always is with online RP, there were a few minor problems - Ike's spelling, xonox playing a stutterer and having to actually text-RP the Flaw, an apparently pointless NPC running around long after she'd done what she came to do (but then, you never really know with NPCs, so...) And let's not forget to mention the newish Cultist on site, the one who hasn't interacted with any characters but that played by her RL boyfriend since she got accepted last month and spent the entire scene basically going, "I'll ignore this and hope it goes away", not actually interacting with a godsdamned thing. Half of us wanted to throttle her at the end of it.

Now, I get questions about why I play - and so much - when I hate half the people on it. Well, thing is, I don't. Yeah, Yonatan Pressner's stutter makes xonox's posts a bit long in coming, but he's a good player on the whole. And Ike can't spell, doesn't punctuate or capitalise and tends to play characters that are too off-the-wall to be entirely useful, but his performance with Jack Sheppard the last little while has proved to me that people can be taught if you hit them with a big enough cluebat. On a personal level, he still annoys me, but the character's improved so that's okay. And I'm not saying anything about the Cultist - she didn't get in the way and at least her player could spell. Plus, miracle of miracles, Emo-Orphan declined to get involved in the scene - we had a moment of "Oh gods no" when she logged into the room, but that passed swiftly when she evidently had a chat with the STs and logged out again. So ... you know, you take the bad with the good.

Plot-stuff cut for the uninterested )

Anywho, I have a lunch-and-DVD date with [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo when he gets back from his outing to Loonbucket's Corner, to which I am quite looking forward (chicken forestiere and Grosse Point Blank; what's not to like?) and then it looks like I'm doing aftermathy-play with [livejournal.com profile] tithenai, who's having all-too-familiar immigration shit and could use some cheering up. I am proud to fill that niche with telling stories to her Sidhe Knight character and giving him the opportunity to go all Lewis Carroll when he sees the newborn extinct flightless bird Astrid's hauling around. Then, the work week. I may actually meet my other boss tomorrow! I've met the one, briefly, but not the other and it's odd. But then, last week sort of went by in a welter of leaving dos for various would've-been colleagues, so it got hard to keep track after awhile.

And for those of you who care, happy Canada Day!
