Ultrasonic
Oct. 6th, 2006 03:07 pmYou ever have one of those days that was doomed to bad-startdom?
Got up at 7, couldn't have coffee or a smoke because you're not supposed to before a scan. Bleh. Left at half-seven, and the outside world was full of that thin drizzly rain that it's not worth bringing an umbrella for but still gets you wet. Bus took forever to show up and I wound up sharing it with kids on their way to school - never one of my favourite things. I did at least make it to my appointment on time - well, a few minutes early, as is recommended with these sorts of things due to wait times at reception. I know my hospital dealings well, if predominantly from the other side of the equation.
Diagnostic imaging technically opens at 9, so there was no one around when I turned up. I hung around like a lump for awhile until someone came out of a staff-only area and asked if I had a 8:30 appointment. So I gave her the documentation and she sat me down in Ultrasound. I was the first one seen, and the lady who did the scan was rather nice, if a bit non-talkative. Lot of cold jelly on my abdomen and "Deep breath and hold..." and being prodded with the scanner in uncomfortable ways. She didn't say she saw anything particularly nasty, but I'm not sure she would have anyway, to be honest - I mean, unless it was life-threatening, which my symptoms don't seem to suggest. Took about 20 minutes and I suppose it wasn't so bad really, but still not something I want to start the day with.
I'll now just have to wait until the results come back to Dr Bez in a week or so. I still have to get a stool sample in to the doctor's office but at this point it looks like that's going to have to wait until Monday, which sucks but there's not much I can do to force that. More bloodwork comes back next week, and the gastro appointment is next month. Beyond that, there doesn't seem to be much to do but wait until symptoms die down or the doctors find something. I'm not great at waiting but I'll just have to deal with it.
It's just depressing. I'm constantly tired, everlastingly uncomfortable, unbelievably bored and generally depressed. I was going to go to the nice Japanese place in North Finchley for lunch, but it started raining really hard and I decided it would be easier if I just bought fixings and actually cooked something. It'll kill some time, anyway, and even if eating isn't fun, cooking will keep me occupied. I need better sickbed entertainment. Or I need to get back into the swing of things with FFXI, or start playing Worms World Party again or something. I need something to do.
