Oct. 22nd, 2005 01:31 pmWe updated, with merchandise! Does this make me a businesswoman?
Had a reasonably good sleep, had lunch, and am now basically ready to get back to work. I even revamped my iTunes Favourites playlist to have some working music. Though going through my Library for my favourite tracks has reminded me yet again that my taste in music is warped. A playlist where Cradle of Filth, Moxy Fruvous, Pitchshifter, Jefferson Spaceship, Derek and the Dominoes, the Pixies, Iron Savior and various snippets of J-pop (including a DDR track) co-exist has to be some kind of aberration. Oh well; it's what I like.
( The Time top 100 booklist has been going around, so... )
My opinoin on the ones I've read on that list range from "OMGILOVETHATBOOK!" (Gone with the Wind, Gatsby, The Blind Assassin, White Teeth ... actually most of them) to "OMGWTFOVERRATED!" (Slaighterhouse 5, On the Road and, to a point, LotR; I like it and everything and it has given a lot to fantasy but I don't think it's, y'know, all that). And it's cool that Watchmen made it on there (must read that; I know it's lying around) but seriously, I'm wondering where some of the other bloody great novels are on there. What about Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? Where's The Handmaid's Tale? I mean, The Blind Assassin was good, but the universe-building that went into Handmaid's Tale is just excellent. Where's Schindler's Ark?
Y'know what? Screw it. Time has its opinions, the BBC has its opinions, and I have mine. Therefore:
( The Thessaliad Top 25 )
So go on; what's your top 25?

Fiddly, Fiddly
Oct. 22nd, 2005 05:27 pmIf my three days off are going to be like this, I'm going to wind up going to work just to take a goddamn break.
Let's see: 6 NPC character sheets. Three NPC background page rewrites. And one NPC background from complete scratch. And so, so much more to go...
I mean, it's not even as if it's all that difficult. It's just fiddly. Fill in the little caltrops with PhotoShop's paint bucket tool, fill in the text info, keep a PSD file in case edits are required, then take a copy, flatten it, save it as JPG and stick it into the text as an image. No problem. Except it's fiddly and it takes time. Then again, I suppose it's easier than writing it all out, and easier to read for people, too. And then there's the rewrites; I've never been very good at word culling, but that's sort of the objective here. But I suppose if I can get all that done in three and a half hours while doing other things at the same time, it shouldn't be too much of a hardship to get it done on time, anyway. It'll just be fiddly and annoying. But hell, I signed up for this. It's coming out okay, anyway, and that's the main thing.
In an hour and a half, I go meet NaNo people. Whee. Hooray for NaNo people. More spending every last iota of free time bashing away at a computer keyboard to make deadline. I'm not as negative about this as I sound.
Oh, fuck a bunch of this. I need a break and I mean to have one.
