Take a Picture
Oct. 9th, 2005 12:35 pmWe bought the stock images last night, and I've been playing with them. There may or may not be a problem with them, though;
dodgyhoodoo thinks that Photo Viewer saved them off at poor resolution (72dpi instead of 300dpi, I guess). Thing is, though, that his judgement is based solely on image size and when I look at the resolution on Photoshop, it says 300 in most cases. So I don't know. All I know is that he's stressed about it even though I can actually increase the resolution if I need to anyway. He says that bicubic is not my friend but frankly with the amount of messing around I'm doing with the stock photos to make them ... well, less photo-like ... I'm not seeing it as a huge problem anyway.
And then I realise that all of the sketches I have and have already placed in the text are at 72dpi and I groan. Is this going to be a problem now as well? Shit. Well, I have already said I can up the res if I have to so I guess now is a good test. I'll have to ask if this is a problem when dealing with pencil sketches. The 300dpi test looked good but my goodness it was huge. Bah. If it's not one thing, it's another.
Still, fun with Photoshop. Messing around with the filters is intense amounts of fun and I've already dicked around with a fair few of them to fit in with the "rough black and white sketch" look of the book. I have to use different filters for different shots, obviously, but "Chalk and Charcoal" is looking like the best bet in a lot of cases. There are a couple of cases where I'm going to have to just greyscale the image in question because I need to keep the photo detail and in one case I'm just not going to touch it at all, but mostly they need filtering. It's not going to be very much of a slog, depending on what needs to happen with the sketches.
I was supposed to spend the pre-game morning just relaxing, maybe playing some Sims, but it just really didn't work out that way. At least I'm over last night's headache from hell; it had been building all week but seems to have faded this morning. Hopefully it stays that way. I hate migraines. Anyway, I have 20 minutes or so to go before pre-game lunch so I can't really get into Sims as much as I'd like but I can at least have some faff time before I go. No more Photoshop!
