Got the Life
Oct. 26th, 2003 04:40 pmYesterday was interesting. This thing one calls a social life is pretty cool, if rather tiring.
I went out to Enfield to meet up with
cholten99 for this Colindale trip, about which he has been kind of vague. Apart from finding out that a) Finsbury Park is the most depressing shithole of a train station that I've ever seen in my life, b) Colindale is not where he thought it was and c) the Pied Piper of Hamlin I bloody well ain't, we decided to invite Kat and Mark (the swordswoman who dresses like a boy and the big Eisen bruiser respectively) to join us in our quest. We managed to get Kat -- Mark was 'monging'. I don't get it either, but it seems to be the word. I use it despite the fact that it is not universally liked, but I use it with a nose-wrinkle of mild disgust if that makes anyone feel better.
After eating a meal (whatever you call the first meal of the day eaten around five o'clock in the afternoon), introducing Kat to the wonder that is miso soup and trawling the grocery store, I went to the bookshop (kanji flash cards and the -- or at least a -- Escaflowne soundtrack), then I found the two miscreants playing Virtua Fighter. Girl power rocks -- Kat not only beat the living shit out of him, but satisfyingly bitch-slapped some Japanese character in a short hot-pink dress (cue the panty shots -- in a video game?). After that got whupped by some lumberjacky guy with bad hair. I shelled out a quid to put myself back on the shooting gallery leaderboard in "Silent Scope 2". One day I'll get good enough to play the game. Anyway, everybody had a good time, so I'm happy.
Went back to Enfield, poked around with his computer, had a looooong chat and then finally headed home around about eleven. I could've stayed over, but various things -- migraine, guilt over the state of the house -- compelled me to just call it a night. After an hour and a half travelling to get home, I kind of wished I'd made another choice, but what the hell.
Side note: I'm confused. When we last spoke, I thought we'd decided that I'd go back up there next weekend and crash at his on Saturday so that there wouldn't be the mass transit nightmare to get to whosever house we're playing 7th Sea at next week. (I'd say I'd host it, and I'd be happy to, but the only person it'd really be convenient for is Simpson. Oh, and me, of course, but that's just dumb.) But in his last entry, he said he was coming over to mine. Huh?
Aaaaanyway. After getting home and ringing
nightskywarlock to tell him I finally saw that badger thing, all I could really do was keel over and go to sleep. I woke up far too early ... then remembered the clocks went back and discovered I got out of bed far, far too early. Suck. Mum rang as well, so I couldn't just go back to sleep (damnit, I accidentally switched off my answerphone at some point during the week so she felt she had to ring me early on a Sunday to see that I was okay as it's the only time I'm home lately).
Then I went grocery shopping. Got enough food for at least two weeks. Then carried it home on foot. Can you say 'pain'?
Also watched two eps of Buffy S2 -- borrowed from Kat and Mark yesterday. Will be returning it to them on Sunday, so would like to watch it all and return it to them promptly so they'll let me borrow S3. And S4. And so on. ^_^ Plus I've got Animatrix to watch (borrowed off he of the ratsitting) and then maybe I can start on my own new stuff. Oh, and the writing. Mustn't forget the writing. Can't have
50ftqueenie chewing her own arm off because I didn't get her that fic. ^_^
This is what is known as 'having a life'. Man, how does anyone with a life get anything done?
