Interview

Too much day. Gods, I feel knackered and generally awful. Now I remember what happens when I try to do anything very much - nausea and endless pain.

Still, the day was productive. I don't expect a whole lot out of the first agency I signed up with - I mean, it was okay and all, but on the whole it was ... well, an average temp agency scenario, ending in "We'll call you". It's pretty much the same deal when agencies say that as it is when guys say that - they may call, they may not, but either way, they're not extraordinarily interested.

The second agency, however...

Well, let's start with my test scores. 94 wpm at 100% accuracy. 10 out of 10 on the spelling test (which took me less than 40 seconds to complete). About 93% on the Word test, 77% on the Excel test and 80% on the PowerPoint test ... and that's without being allowed to use shortcut keys. And, I repeat: 94 words per minute with no mistakes. So straight away, it was, "Hi there, I'll be your Advisor; God, your skills are fantastic". So I explained the amount of practice I get, what with the writing and all, and explained NaNoWriMo. So straight off, she saw that I was a very skilled, very driven, very self-motivated individual. Then I explained the whole Affils project and RPGs in general, which she didn't really have a clue about. So edit that earlier statement to 'very skilled, very driven, very self-motivated, very creative and a good communicator on top of all that'. So, needless to say, the interview went well.

However, that was not entirely the end, as it usually is. My Advisor at this agency then said that she was going to introduce me around the office so I could meet the other reps and stuff. This, incidentally, never happens. Turned out that word had got out about the new recruit with the obscene typing speed and everybody wanted to meet me. My Advisor made me explain NaNo to them as well, so on the whole, I got a lot of cooing and "Oh, it's a shame we can't place you this week. Never mind; we'll find you something good for when you can!"

(Note: What I've essentially decided about this whole employment thing is that I'll do short-term temp work until the new year or until I get some kind of treatment for whatever the fuck is wrong with me, whichever seems appropriate - that way I am still getting a paycheque but don't have to explain to a new employer that I'll need to be taking odd hours for medical faff right off the bat. I was commended on my professionalism when I explained that to the agencies, so I think it's a good thing.)

Anyway, they told me they would call me later in the week if they had anything, and also encouraged me to call them on Monday if they hadn't just to make sure that everything was okay and to let them know that I was still available for temp work that week. So not so much "We'll call you" as "We'll call you and/or you call us; whatever, just let us represent you!"

So ... yay! But now I'm exhausted from all the excitement. Whee.

Yaaaay, You!

Yaaaay, Job!

Just in general, Yaaaay!

Well, except for the whole still sick part. That sucks a lot.

Congrats!

And speaking of Affils, are you planning to do anything related to it at Dragonmeet?

Not this year, no. Hells, I don't even know if I'm going this year. I'd love to, but it depends on whether OldBoss is actually getting my paycheques to me as if I was still working there during my 'pre-redundancy leave' period.
