ST: the Forsaken

And so, Forsaken happened. Unfortunately, we had a minor problem with [livejournal.com profile] neonchameleon, who initially said he would definitely be turning up to this session only to have him text me less than half an hour before we were due to meet for lunch to tell me that the buses were being pains in the arse and so he wasn't going to bother. That was a little annoying. I don't really know what to think when he's cancelled the last three sessions. I'd hope that if he didn't want to play, he'd just tell me so - it's not like I'll get that offended. As it is, I'm having to keep things as open as I can for a player who's not showing up. At least it's early days, so it's not so hard, but...

Anyway, enough about that. On to the write-up.

The character list is currently:

Talia Grey: An Australian aspiring biochemist on a semi-enforced 'see the world' trip before she locks herself in a lab for the next ten years. Ithaeur Bone Shadow. Played by [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo
Nick Wei: A Chinese backpacker from Hong Kong who's taking his gap year and seeing Europe while he decides what he wants to do at Uni. Cahalith Iron Master. Played by [livejournal.com profile] weaselbitch

(For Apocalypse fans: Ithaeur = Theurge, Cahalith = Galliard)

They met over breakfast at their hostel and sensed the wolf in one another pretty much straight off. After a brief conversation, Talia noticed some guy walk in because he gave off this unbelievable reek of malice. He outed them as werewolves by the simple expedient of throwing down silver, and then left, probably to consider options. Talia and Nick then decided their best bet was to lure him out somewhere open and take him down. They decided on Regent's Park and cut through Camden on the way, running into a local pack as they went and basically being told, "Okay, get on with it, let us know how it goes".

They went to the park and apparently this hunter guy had organised an impromptu gig at the theatre bit of the park. That dealt with the witnesses, and so they went to the more overgrown portions of the park to wait. However, the hunter had set up behind a tree and starting presumably silver-tipped arrows at the duo. Nick got Talia out of the line of fire and began considering ways of sneaking out of cover and past this guy to make him stop shooting one way or another. Talia, meanwhile, used one of her Gifts (which allows her to partially change form) to shift Gauru hands and jaws on a Dalu body (for Apocalypse fans: Gauru = Crinos, Dalu = Glabro), jumped out from cover and charged the guy. Mainly because Mr Silver Arrow set the tree they were hiding behind on fire. She didn't kill him particularly expertly, but she did kill him, and Nick used a Gift of his own (the ability to manipulate earth) to cover the corpse, and they left.

They met up with the Elder pack again and, despite Nick being the Cahalith, it was Talia who told the tale of how they bested the hunter. (They are both very, very new, but Talia seems to be picking things up faster.) Both were given deed names, though only one of them kept theirs; Talia is known as Shifting Death, and Nick was originally deed named Veil Mender. The elders also basically put Talia in the position of pack alpha, mainly because she did all the talking. The new pack were invited to stay for lunch and, after some questioning from Talia, told them that one route they could go for a patron spirit was the Lodge of London. Mainly situated at the Tower of London, this Lodge has London's Urban Father as a patron, so any help they could get on that front would be a bonus. They'd still need their own pack totem, but every little helps.

It was at the Lodge where it all went wrong. There were various supernaturals around, and one very much not-werewolf superhuman was watching both new Uratha. They decided "Fuck this, we're stepping through to the Shadow" ... only Nick didn't manage and tried to hide behind a suit of armour. The non-werewolf found him quite easily and, through feats of circumlocution, got him to admit that he was a werewolf. Then she went away. Unfortunately, given that two school groups had just left the Tower, a fair few spirits of gossip and communication were hovering around the place, so by the time Nick finally got through the Gauntlet, every Uratha in the city and possibly the world had heard that this cub had just revealed his true nature to what turned out to be a mage. Which, of course, goes against the Oath of the Moon, and pretty much kills his original deed name. Instead, they currently call him 'Lapdog'. Not an auspicious deed name. So Talia as his alpha had to save her pack's face by bollocking him in front of everyone, and he was stripped of some of his Reknown, and Nick wallflowered while Talia made connections and asked for advice about pack totems. Eventually, Nick got around to trying to find a way to save face (mainly because it was made clear to him that he might well get exiled from his tribe if he didn't redeem himself fast, and as Talia put it, "If I have to introduce myself as a pack of one RONIN, I will be very upset.") and a small group of really disdainful looking Uratha told him to go and kill the mage. So Nick went to ask spirits for help. They laughed at him. His exact words? "Aw, come on, guys! Help me out here!"

This from the creature that's supposed to police the Shadow. The raven-spirits he was talking to were having a field day with that one, and it took Talia some effort to get them to respect her after being told that "Lapdog begged". Anyway, the raven-spirits did agree to take Talia's petition for patronage to London's Urban Father despite some misgivings about Lapdog, and Talia helped Nick insofar as to give him the name of the mage he was looking for; it was all the help she could give him, seeing as her doing any of the real work would lose Nick the Reknown he so desperately needed to regain.

Nick located the mage's place of business, found it guarded heavily by gafflings. The gafflings laughed at him - they had already heard about the Lapdog thing - and after a bit of failed negotiation, Nick gave up. Meeting up with Talia, he explained what he'd learned about mages (powerful as fuck, which Talia already knew from the people at the Lodge) and eventually realised that there was no reason to go hunting this mage - mages know that werewolves exist, so killing her wouldn't exactly stop that from being known, and they're far too powerful to go up against one-on-one. So he went back to the Tower to tell them that, and gained a bit of Reknown for his Wisdom.

At the end of the session, Lapdog's partial redemption tipped the scales in favour of the pack in the eyes of London's Urban Father, so they should expect to hear from an actual spirit in the next couple of days but for now, London's watching over them and easing their path a little. They plan to go find an Adder spirit as a pack totem, and then they are going to set about doing some spirit research so they can tidy up their small patch of Wound-infested territory. It's going to be fun.

So tired. I have next week off, though; it's marked on the calendar and everything. Whee. But I'm still tired and bored and would very much like to just go home. Oh well.

I HATE it when players bitch out of things.
