And once again, FFXI is full of arseholes. Go, arseholes!

So I went onto FFXI, seeing as it was a total wash-out last night owing to the vast numbers of people with no lives cranking Vana'diel on a Saturday night. The lag was so bad I couldn't even access my mog house, and then I just couldn't log in at all, so I gave up and called it a night. You know, as you do.

Today's original plan was to go and get my Tenshodo Application Form, now that I've figured out how to do so. Apparently I need to be a member of the Tenshodo to finish my Rank 5 mission (and yes, I am getting a little ahead of myself as I haven't even done the Rank 4 mission yet), and to get to Aht Urhgan. It turns out to be fairly simple, if a little long-winded - go to The Neptune's Spire, select the third, blank option from the Mithra at the front desk to activate the quest, and either hand in a Tenshodo Invite then and there or go to Bastok to get a Tenshodo Application Form. Now, since Deet's still got our group Tenshodo Invite and hasn't been seen on the LS for at least a couple of months, I'm thinking I'm going to have to do this the hard way and prepare myself for a jaunt to Bastok. But, since I'm already passing by Pashhow Marshlands in the process, I decide that I should stop by and get that monument impression I keep neglecting to obtain.

On the way there, I saw that bloody Malboro that guards the monument, and it checks as Easy Prey. Note for future reference: Easy Prey? Sometimes isn't. I got very squished. Homepointed back in Jeuno, minus a lot of XP, and was then determined to kill the fucking ugly thing just on principle. And it killed me again. I died. I delevelled. I was pissed off. And figured that, before I did anything else, I at least ought to head back to Kahzam and get my lvl 30 back. So off I go, waiting for the airship and putting up my party flag and generally getting a strong sense of deja vu. And thankfully, I found a party right away - as in, while still on the airship. And, after a minor issue where I yet again got lost trying to get from Yuhtunga Jungle to Yhoator Jungle, I met up with the party and...

Well. It was a bit of a mess from the beginning, actually. Turns out I was a replacement party member. For a WHM. Excuse me - WHM is my sub. I'm not a healer - I'm a damage dealer in this incarnation. Please kindly explain to me what the hell we're going to do in party without a healer?!? However, turns out the party lead (lvl 30 WAR when I showed up) was leaving soon as well so hopefully we could get a WHM to replace him or something. Apparently not - we wound up with the WAR sticking around while hunting up a replacement and the five of us pulling Mandies and, while not getting our arses kicked, at least not having a particularly easy time of it or even remotely being able to EXP-chain the fuckers.

And then came the other party. It is against all FFXI etiquette to camp directly on top of someone for a few reasons: 1) it causes lag (particularly when there are one or more bards in the party); 2) it makes it trickier to tab onto a target because there are so many people you could select instead; 3) if the mobs being demolished use an Area of Effect attack, it doesn't discriminate for people not in the party killing it. You can't attack someone else's mob, but someone else's mob sure as hell can affect you with, for example, a MND Down or Sleepga effect. And let's not talk about Goblin Smithies using Bomb Toss. On the whole, it sucks complete arse and the party who did it really should have got a tell to the effect of "We were here first, guys - kindly go away."

However, no. What actually happened was that we found a replacement for the WAR but the WAR was impatient and left, disbanding the entire damn party as he went. We'd killed maybe three mobs. I hate the jungles. But at least I got my lvl 30 back.

I caught [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo's lurgy. I am not happy about this but hope that it remains at its current low level irritation level and does not, in fact, blow up into Hellacious Lurgy of DOOM such as [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo currently has.

Anyway, plan for the evening is to cook dinner, see what's going on with the JusNoctis people, and if there's no hope of a scene this evening, I'll go back on FFXI and see if Gjoll's kicking about. If he's not there, I'll go to Bastok and get my Tenshodo Application Form. And I think I'll leave the Malboro alone until I at least have more of a buffer between me and delevelling.

I think how fast my email is depends on how much of a bitch the Yahoo servers are being today. Pretty fast at the minute - I've replied to yours, by the way.
