The Best Laid Plans Again
There hasn't been much going on lately, unless you count the ongoing CbN clusterfuck. Yes, it's still going. Yes, it just keeps getting worse and worse for my character ... though, admittedly, not as much as it's about to suck for a local Verbena elder...
When we left off, Nina was holed up in a safehouse with the friends who had retrieved her from a back alley in North Chuck, waiting for help and doing a little bit of passive scanning to see what, if anything, they could sense had been done to Nina. However, that didn't so much work out; we had to metagame it a little because Whit had neglected to tell us a damn thing about what the little red laser sight thing had done to Nina's eye. So we had Nina, whose Perception and Awareness can mean auto-success on sensing that someone's doing magic (or at least did when Elizabeth was screwing around with Matt), sense that Fae was doing something and stop her before she could actually sense for anything. It worked for awhile.
We then had company. Cockroach, a Verbena elder, had been sent to them by Garvey with a plan to clear Nina of the whole mess. Well, sort of, anyway; basically the plan became that Roach would run around the South as Nina for awhile, committing brutal, violent criminal acts and basically affirming the public's belief that she's a drug-soaked psychotic wreck, then stage Nina's death by explosion, stepping into the Umbra at the moment of detonation so that he actually survives this stupidity. It might have actually worked if Roach hadn't overegged the pudding and played Nina with a lot more magical ability than she actually has. In short, the Technocracy knows that 'Nina' is a fake but they're perfectly happy to put the hit on Roach, as he's the one out and active. And they've dropped what amounts to a lump of concrete on the boathouse near the cross-Trad chantry. Nothing else on it, we are reliably informed (auto-successes on magic scans); just a lump of concrete with fins of some kind. Still, there's a bit of a 'holy shit' atmosphere.
Oh, and the eye thing? Wave frequency generator thingie that screws with the eye muscles and, as well as itching like fuck, makes the target incapable of REM sleep. Yeah. The guys who worked that one out pointed out that it wasn't a big deal, that it was something that the NWO does to consors and newbie magi, and that she was all healed now. Still. Dreamspeaker deprived of REM sleep? Yeah, between that and the fact that someone's running around with her face and body, and going to get 'her' killed on national TV, and the whole 'I just killed someone and brought this shit on our heads' thing, it's no surprise that Nina's seriously deranged right now. If she ever hears about what happened at the boathouse, I don't know what she's gonna do.
The reaction of the other magi are interesting. There's a couple who actually don't know yet. At least one mage who doesn't know Nina (one of the newbies) is going, "Um ... this ain't right...", whereas at least two who do know her but don't know the situation are either going, "Oh, Nina, what have you done?" or yelling profanities about her idiocy and recklessness, not thinking that you can't believe everything you see on TV. And a couple of others are going, "BullCRAP!" and trying to work out what's actually going on. It's rather hysterical, actually.
It turns out that endgame happens over the weekend. So there's another few days of this to go. People are trying to be sensitive to the fact that I live in a really screwed up time zone but sometimes, it just doesn't work. Recent group rescue / info dissemination / Roach's mad plan scene went completely fucking pear-shaped because almost no one turned up when they said they would (they have reasons, but it's still irritating), and I'm still trying to get some scenes together to ensure that my character comes out of this somewhat playable. Of course, this is difficult when the shit just keeps on hitting the fan, so it tends to involve tracking the others down, which involves more late nights. Not that I've been sleeping very well lately anyway (I am having what
dodgyhoodoo refers to [thanks to Transmet] as 'rampaging gut horror') but I'll still be glad when this SL winds down a little. If nothing else, I want to see how it ends.
Final Fantasy's been a no-go lately because of server maintenance. Or something. Won't let me log into Asura anyway. This is a pain. I'm hoping it'll be back online soon. I'd like to go back to that some. I suppose there's the weekend:
dodgyhoodoo is off to his brother's wedding and after some debate, it looks like I'm not going along. The current reason is that I'm still a little worried about Yuki, who seems to be more demanding than ever lately and might wreck the house if left alone all weekend, even with
weaselbitch coming in to feed her and stuff. Not to mention the 'having procrastinated on buying something halfway decent to wear' thing and the fact that I just plain don't wanna go 'cos I'll be nervous and uncomfortable and I don't like the idea of going anywhere just because it'll 'look funny' if I don't. Besides, if my stomach hasn't improved by then, it's not going to be any fun at all.
And now it's lunchtime, so I'll stop rambling.
