Over the Horizon
So Mage rocked. As usual.
So after a good night's sleep, the cabal found themselves hosting a swarm of umbral Muppet-things, all rescued by Molly, who found their realm decaying beyond recognition. So Doctor Science put them up in a storage area in the sub-basement and left them to their own devices; after putting them down there, Molly and Skank found themselves, thanks to the Random elevator, in a control room, looking at various city scenes. After this and some amusing business about finding out that Rose is Awakened etc, they discovered - through both the images from the control room and from the words of a Bone Gnawer calling himself Digs, that most of the cities are walled off, people are being branded with Wyrm-tainted bar code tattoos to track them and to lead them down the Spiral if appropriate, and that the only people left to fight the Eeeevil are the Changing Breeds and, oddly enough, the Sabbat because most of the mages have gone off-plane. So while Skank explained to Rose about the "Lucius is the rat boyfriend who walked out on you and the blond twins are the kids you gave up for adoption, sort of" situation and so on, Molly went out and rounded up the Tremere and the Orphans. And the next morning, they went off and stormed Horizon, partly to get the mages back into the game and partly because Lucille, Emily, Beep, Ajahn, Lesley and Leanne had been locked up in an Umbral pocket off Horizon on charges of treason. The initial delegation and reconaissance party consisted of Skank, Lucius, Molly, Dawn, Sgt Hard-Bitch, Amanda the medic, Sue the Mini-Thig, Matt (a seven-year-old Verbena) and Lisa (thirteen-year-old Ecstatic).
(Oh yeah, and Peter left, basically deciding that this peril shit was way over his head. He donated his library to them, reasoning that they'd need it more than he did and he could do no more research if the universe was doomed, and pointed out to them that Dawn, with her bright white Crinos-form fur, is more than likely a revenant of the White Howlers, basically the Anti-BSDs. They're coming back, though in Dawn's case it probably has something to do with spending her entire gestational period in Silent Hill...)
Anyway, they eventually got to Horizon after great effort - it's warded up tight - and discovered that the whole damn place was a big multi-Trad enclave. The Etherites have a street of their own called Hogan's Alley, and the Euthanatos have a similar sort of place that looks a hell of a lot like Knockturn Alley would after a win for Voldemort ... right down to the people in the black robes and the death's head masks. The whole place is weighted down by so much Jhor it's untrue. In the Dreamspeaker area, there's a life-sized statue of Dawn 1.0 (the Ascended one). After that brief tour-round, they went up to the main keep and Skank got zapped to high heaven. Dawn 2.0 was riding his shoulders at the time, went into fox frenzy and had to be coaxed out from under a voodoo-Dreamspeaker's hut by Lucius, and Skank, Matt and Lisa were locked up, as was Molly. The entire Realm heard Molly screaming when the Hermetics in the keep started their experiments. Skank was Not Amused. He was taken up before some Council bods (including the ever-annoying Merrick Archbold) and informed that he is no longer considered a mage because House Thig has been disbanded and he's been essentially excommunicated. Lucius, after getting Dawn out from under the hut, went back to look at the keep and was pretty much immediately arrested, along with Dawn and Sue the Mini-Thig. Skank's crimes were enumerated as trespass and murdering Corvus Corleone, because it was claimed that his original defence was presented by massassa.
Merrick Archbold is in charge of Horizon, and the Council of Traditions has basically become the Council of Hermes. Merrick rules with an iron fist and was intrigued enough by Dawn to take her up for experimentation while he had Lucius thrown in the brig with Skank. Molly was brought back in, bleeding and abused, but managed to blow the doors off their cells to allow them a chance to escape. Unfortunately, Lucius completely failed to sneak, decided to try magic (not knowing that their magic was warded against in the guard rooms as well as in the cells), blocked Skank's ability to attack one of the two guards, and got pinned to a wall. Skank tried to tackle one of the two guards, but the guard dodged and similarly pinned him. They kicked Skank around a bit, trying to find out how he escaped, but he wouldn't say anything until they threatened to hurt Molly some more, at which point they took her away for more 'testing' and jammed Lucius and Skank into Molly's former cell. Night passed.
In the morning, Lucius was sentenced to six months of house arrest and assigned a new mentor in the hopes that he could be rehabilitated. He was dragged out to the Euthanatos Quarter and handed over to some creepy guy in one of the death's head masks. Skank got a similar sentence, except for two things: the house arrest was for a year, and they branded his Avatar with the symbol for 'massassa'. That hurt a lot so he doesn't remember much about the trip to his new home. Skank was taken in by Stephen Hogan, apparently the founder of Hogan's Alley. Lucius, after being led into his new mentor's sitting room, discovered that the creepy Euthie he'd been handed off to was Ajahn. Yes, he was supposed to be in an Umbral jail cell, but he "had someplace he needed to be". Which I suppose is all you ever need to know with Ajahn. Unfortunately, both Lucius and Skank had to be collared before they could leave the house (Skank figuratively, Lucius literally), but coincidentally, they both got taken to the Central Diner, where all the locals hang out, and managed to get a few things straight. Unfortunately, Stephen Hogan is a wuss and wouldn't be of any help, even when he mentioned that a human being (Sgt Hard-Bitch) had been put on the scrap-heap and was going to be rendered down for the Primium in her bones. So off they went back to their respective homes.
Lucius got off relatively lucky; he had to make dinner for Ajahn and his 'contemporaries', and screwed it up at least once, and then went to bed. Skank, however, went to the room prepared for him, tried to summon a spirit messenger, botched and got a tiger-sized Umbral Horror. It bit him badly before he could be rescued, and a doctor was called. The doctor was Amanda, and she managed to loosen his shackle-bracelet (which kept him from leaving the house or going more than 20 feet from Stephen when they were both out) before leaving to try to save Sgt Hard-Bitch herself. Skank managed to remove the bracelet and get out of the house, hoping to sneak to the junkyard and save Sgt Hard-Bitch. However, he double-botched a Stealth roll, stepped on a trigger on a lawn two doors down and started this one house flashing in technicolour lights and playing "When The Saints Go Marching In". Skank got apprehended, gave the security forces a run for their money and then eventually got clubbed unconscious and dragged back 'home'. He got broken out later by Sgt Hard-Bitch but attracted the attention of Stephen, who got beaten into unconsciousness by Sgt Hard-Bitch because Stephen had already hit Skank with an immobilisation spell. After Amanda broke the spell with a tazer blast to the neck, they were on their way to rescue Sue, who they discovered was under house arrest two doors down.
They did this the sensible way; subterfuge. Skank did sneak across the lawn but was amazed to see that Amanda and Sgt Hard-Bitch didn't; they'd just disarmed the soundtrack-triggered front lawn before trying to cross it. Then they knocked and asked to borrow the occupant's apprentice, since Stephen's new apprentice was too large for some of the finer work needed on a certain device. The woman, dressed in dungarees and a peach T-shirt, agreed to pass Sue over and that was that. When questioned, Sue stated that her new 'mentor' was Louise Greer; apparently Marie "PerkyStand 2000" Greer has a sister. Lucius, who was let out with the statement, "Lucius? Your rescue party's here", wants to have words with her later about getting the ever-present hatstand out of his life for good.
After the denuded group was reunited, they had to find a hiding spot. They found an underground speakeasy run by a Sully-thing and friendly to the seditious. For five drams of Tass (which can be provided by Amanda), they get some weapons, the makings of more and a message couriered to the Real World (tm). They're going to have to do this the old-fashioned way; get their crew of Space Marines, child mages and whoever else they can round up and hit the bastards. And hopefully they get Molly out alive so that she can not only save the universe but also maybe remove that brand from Skank's Avatar...
Since we don't have Changeling next week, we're having an extra session of Mage instead. Which should be fun, since they're going to storm Horizon with an army and all...
