Moots Bloody Moots

Those of you on my friends list who know Werewolf are gonna have to help me out here, because I have to admit to being a little stumped on something that's come up recently in the Hollow City game. (Admittedly, it doesn't touch on my character and may never do, given, but I'm soliciting opinions anyway.)

So there's this huge meeting that my character can't attend -- the reason for this involves someone calling for this meeting in a post timestamped 2:30 pm board-time when board-time had actually progressed to, like, seven in the evening and I had, unlike some, actually progressed through three threads by then. A pisser, but cannot be helped. Anyway, this meet was supposed to be an alpha moot but due to circumstances beyond everyone's control (to wit: Kinfolk being ritually sacrificed to feed a big honkin' demon that's slowly turning the city into its personal playground), it was made general. Very general. As in, every Garou they could get hold of, Kinfolk and the two mages (read: caern-rapers) associated with the Garou at this point.

(NB: The caern-raper thing is being handled very well, all things considered. Basically, there's this Mage, who also happens to be Child of Gaia Kinfolk, who's currently in a hot and heavy relationship with the highest-Ranked Garou PC in the city. The other Garou don't like it all that much, particularly because the Mage in question can be a stroppy, sanctimonious git as well as a 'caern-raper', but because he's Kin, they're sort of letting it slide. Besides, the other major pack can't say much about it anyway because, not to put too fine a point on it, two of their number are having a relationship that completely shatters that whole "Garou shall not mate with Garou" part of the Litany. Bone Gnawer female; Shadow Lord male. It's the weirdest thing. Anyway.)

One of the characters on the board is a Garou of indeterminate Rank and Auspice (but is likely a Glass Walker) who served as an army medic in Gulf War I. Lost at least one friend and I don't think he actually went Harano but is currently suffering a rather specialised form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder whereby he seems to favour the Lupus form and shifts to it uncontrollably in bad situations. His wife is -- and this shall henceforth be known as WTF Moment Number One -- Get / Fianna Kinfolk. As in, Get of Fenris Kin and Fianna Kin somehow got over the serious emnity between those two tribes and ducked their Garou protectors / overseers / whatever long enough to have a relationship and a kid, and instead of bringing her up in the one tribe and never telling her about her lineage of the other, it seems she knows enough about it to be damn proud of this mix. I'm thinking someone doesn't really understand the point of Kinfolk or how they're seen in the Garou hierarchy.

Particularly not given that in this moot, where the ranking Child of Gaia is telling everyone that Kinfolk are being taken out in systematic strikes, that no one should go anywhere alone and that they need to strike at this thing before it kills again, this Get / Fianna crossbreed Kinfolk stands up and says, "I'm sorry for your loss, and the Get in me loves a good fight, but this is too much to expect of my traumatised Garou husband so we're leaving town. I'll get the Garou I know to come and take my place." And the husband says nothing. Says, in fact, that she's right and that he'd be a liability. And the ranking CoG running the meeting says, "Yeah; don't blame you. I'd do the same and won't judge anyone who chooses to leave". And it falls to the Ragabash to bring up the responsibilities this Garou has to his people. And yet traumatised Garou and uppity Kin bugger off anyway.

1) Kinfolk. Mouthing off to Garou in what was originally an alpha moot. When the only reason she's there is because she is a target and needs to be protected. This will henceforth be known as WTF Moment Number Two. That's like a Ghoul standing up and speaking out of turn -- or, frankly, at all -- at an Elysium. The reaction should have been a good hard glare and the words, "Whose is this?" And seriously, you should have seen the willpower points people were blowing to not rip this woman's head off.

2) Kinfolk promising the aid of her Garou tribemates. This will henceforth be known as WTF Moment Number Three. Okay, on the one hand, half the Get are going to hear about this and go, "Hey! We're going over there to kill something! Yay!" The other half, however, are going to go, "You're. Telling us. What to do. That's funny. You're breeding stock and you're frankly not worth the trouble." This would be just before her head sails merrily across the room while her body collaspes in a blood-spurting heap.

3) The ranking Garou lets the Kin in question get away with this. In fact, the ranking Garou sits there and goes, "I don't blame you. I'd do the same in your position. And if anyone wants to leave, I won't judge them." This will henceforth be known as WTF Moment Number Four. Yes, I understand that the woman's Child of Gaia. However, when honking great demons reeking of Wyrm start dominating your territory, throw a knife at your chosen mate and kill your Kin, I'd say you're ready to start ripping heads off things, and that part of the Litany that goes, "Seek out the Wyrm wheresoever it lives and kill it" will be foremost in your mind. You're not supposed to be all understanding when the Wyrm is making overt moves and the Garou around you won't do their damn jobs.

4) The husband agreed with this stupid Kin. This will henceforth exceed even a WTF Moment and be known as "Are You People Batshit Crazy?" Moment Number One. The Kin stood up in front of the Garou's peers and at least one superior and publically shamed him. If Honour could go below zero, his would have. He was reminded by a Ragabash that his honour was at stake here and that his duty lay in slaying the Wyrm, but all he said was, "My breeding stock is right; I'm incapable" and walked out. Well, he can kiss his rank good-bye and be considered ronin for as long as Galliards sing...

5) Main voice of honour, duty and tradition in this scene? The Ragabash. The Glass Walker Ragabash. Ragabash are the tricksters, the ones who question the status quo. Glass Walkers, because of their love of cities and technology, are generally seen as the least concerned about what their ancestors would think. The one Galliard who wasn't grieving for his chosen mate or trying to keep certain things about his chosen mate a secret bogged off for a smoke break rather than tell stories of glorious victories against untenable odds, and the Philodox wasn't even there, having bogged off with 'the caern-raper' to pick up someone said caern-raper wants to talk to. That's not even "Are You People Batshit Crazy?" This is more a "This Must Be What Going Mad Feels Like" Moment.

Now, to be fair, this was probably done to write those characters out. But seriously, if you're going to write a Garou out, please do it halfway believably.

That said, I'm still waiting for some godsdamned plot. [livejournal.com profile] dodgyhoodoo is working on his character background, though, so at least there'll be a third person in Grace's little pack at some point, provided he gets accepted.

It's a slow day and I am so bored. Someone save meeeee...
