The world has ceased to make sense.
I have a list of papers to send to referees, left by Disorganised Editor from Planet Silly, or Mitchell Botch, Ham-Fisted Editor. I have reached the end of the list and now have to send an e-mail back to Ham-Fisted Editor stating the following:
a) One of the referees from one paper can't do it for three weeks.
b) You asked this referee to review a paper less than a month ago. I think he's busy with that now.
c) E-mail for one of the referees from the second paper and one from the fourth is invalid; try again.
d) One of the referees from the third paper doesn't seem to exist the way you spelled his / her name.
e) The paper you refer to does not exist with that first author in any of my systems. What the fuck?
f) You claim both referees you're suggesting I use are in the references of this paper. One is. One isn't. And I may have to search through 81 pages of PubMed stuff to get to that name because all you gave me was a surname. A very common surname.
This is why this job sometimes takes longer than it should. First I have to weed through PubMed. Then I have to take time out to bitch on LJ.
