They wanted to paint a picture of an unsavoury character so that people would be more willing to impeach him for whatever the hell he's supposed to have done everywhere else. Remember, this is politics and media, where image and spin have carried more weight than ideology and substance than ever before these past five years. So they brought his sex life up in court to make the other stuff a little easier to swallow, I suppose. It doesn't surprise me. It's the game.
I just don't like the game. I'm sick and fucking tired of a bunch of unsavoury, snake-tongued rat-bastards getting into office not by the weight of their own convictions but by screwing the other guy. Attack campaigns are not acceptable, in my view. Dealing with the media on their terms and leaving yourself at the mercy of spin doctors? Horrible mistake. People shouldn't garner respect by allowing their lives to become a chew-toy and punch-bag for Rupert fucking Murdoch and his breed.
I tell you, if I was ever insane, masochistic or just plain dumb enough to run for government office, any media bod who asked me about my sexuality would get a) an overview on my stance on gay rights and b) an addendum of "As for my personal life, it's none of your business, and neither is it the public's. Go find another story if all you want to do is dig for dirty laundry". And then I'd lose all public support and never come near the office I'd want, but it'd be worth it for the slapped look on the reporter's face.
