Further update on the Exalted/Immortal thing:
1) Exalted: I'm in; character gen's on the 23rd. (I get a Sunday off! W00t!) They've got someone from every caste bar one -- Zenith Caste Solar, described as "the gods among gods, glorious leaders of the Unconquered Sun" by the GM. Not sure if he's trying to sell it or what, but I'm thinking it could still work. I still have every intention of playing an utter lunatic. I need the main Exalted book, apparently, though how I'm going to afford it on top of Magic Box for Buffy is anyone's guess.
2) Immortal: Ditched. Andy O'Hara says he found it unplayable but I didn't see that as the main problem. I think it was equal portions gaming attitude and a pride in the GM's personal White Wolf Universe that bordered on hubris. Not to mention the fact that they got obscene amounts done in the week and a half we missed through no fault of our own and the further fact that my Immortal character sucks.
And eventually, once Exalted has finished its run, I'll get a chance to GM myself. Of course, I'm going to be completely ignoring Ascension, Apocalypse and Gehenna -- given my personal beliefs and preferences, I'd have a very hard time running a game where the Celestial Chorus turned out to be right the whole time. So I think I'll just set the entire campaign pre-Ascension -- that at least gives scope.
Anyway, now I must Google to find some information on the Zenith Caste and some general Exalted stuff. However, I do have every intention on doing some writing of some kind today, so rejoice (or scream; whatever).

I don't have Ascension, but the end-of-Mage scenarios it presents are adapted for LARPing in Laws of Judgment, which I do have, and there's nothing in any of them (that I can see) that specifically decrees the Chorus to have been right. Still, at least one person on my flist (or maybe it was someone in
And a good source of Exalted info is the Exalted Compendium, with Exalted Wiki either a close second or even better, depending on your point of view.
And I rejoice at the writing (though, depending what it is, I may well scream in a good way once I see it).

Date: 2004-05-09 08:08 am (UTC)Based on what I've seen (which admittedly ain't everything for the ToJ, but between LoJ and World of Darkness: Time of Judgment, I think I've got all the bases covered), what you heard is a dreadful oversimplification. Vampire always worked from a specifically Christian perspective (Caine and the archangels), but it's the only one I can specifically think of. Demon: The Fallen used Christian mythology (yes, Rufus, I know She doesn't like that combination of words), but added a bit of cosmological double-talk about multiple layers of reality to explain how the One Above fitted with Werewolf/Mage's Triat. (It put me in mind of the line in the Principia Discordia about "The Truth is five but men have only one name for it", personally.)
if I'm going to get as far as Ascension, I'll bloody well write my own.
The LJ'er I mentioned who had so little use for Ascension resolved the same, or at least opined that any Mage fan worth eir Avatar could have produced a much better version than the official one. I say go for it!
(Oh, and it shames me that I forgot this last time any questions about Exalted that you still have after the googling, the good folks at

Date: 2004-05-09 10:36 am (UTC)Oh, and are there spaces for a random nut off the internet in your Mage game?

Date: 2004-05-09 01:59 pm (UTC)As for random nuts off the Internet in my Mage game, I'm pretty sure that'd be acceptable. However, I should point out that it'd likely take months to finish up Exalted and between that, 7th Sea, and Buffy/Angel, the whole group's pretty well tied up. It sucks to be a gamer with a RealLife.
