Another bit of news. On my way to visit [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 last night, I stopped by a bookstore, feeling desperate for something to read once I realised that I had no reading material with me. I eventually picked up the collected Dorothy Parker and something called Don't Read This Book If You're Stupid. Both a little ... I believe the word my dear SO uses is 'pretentious', but both so very me.

I also found this.

Now, I have exactly 15 days to decide whether or not I want to do this. I could use the thing I was working on for the NoMo, but there's another project I think I'd rather do. But if I work that one up, I have 15 days to produce 10,000 words of it, come up with a synopsis (and that means thinking up how it's supposed to end) and I'm not sure I have the time. Then again, I'm not gaming Sunday... I also need to scare up the £10, but that's the least of my problems. I've been told I'm good, but that's as may be -- I just wonder if I'm good enough. Is this the way to find out?

Help. I don't want to get into a NoMo situation again -- one where I try and fail to meet the deadline.

Thess

TRUST ME she is an AMAZING writer. I've followed her works for several years now on the net... and she's quite frankly tied with stephen king as my favorite author(s) I'd tell you where to find some of her stuff but quite frankly she'd probably have me... well I don't know what she'd do, but it would be painful, creative, and flat out scary.

Sweets? While I realise that fear might be blocking higher brain functions... check my links list. I link to my fanfic myself. Just, with the possible exception of the last two, that doesn't mean all that much. And the man may not know Daria from a hole in a tree.

heh

but why would she be afraid of me reading it? It's not like I'm The Guardian's Literary critic! I'm just some lowly Brazilian guy stranded in London who wants to read top fiction from my LJ friends... she's damn funny in her posts, so I know her fiction will be good too.

*are you listening Thess?*

I'm not afraid of you reading it, exactly. She's afraid because she knows how much I hate gushing praise, particularly when it concerns all but my two most recent fanfics. (Those ones are okay; I wrote them when I was sane.) She's not kidding when she says she's my personal Annie Wilkes. Except for the thing about the car crash and the hobbling and the manic depression. I hope.

Anyway, if I can track down the short story I've got finished, I'll post it here.

Well, the idea of trying out for something like that myself scares the hell out of me, out of all the people I know, you'd be the one I'd bet on to win. Go for it!

You'll never know if you don't try and I'd guess to say you may regret not trying. And it would be a great way to make contacts for the future. Go for it.

I read that 'Don't Read This Book If You Are Stupid' thing last year, on the train up to InFest. Not a bad collection of short stories, but I didn't keep returning to it afterward, though it provoked a few thoughts on the way.

go for it

I don't know how much this means coming from your own personal annie wilkes, ;) but I think you should go for it. You're a damn fine talent and you would be a great addition to any such competition. The nomo is good, but I say go where Thren leads.
