It occurs to me that there are a couple of reasons why I haven't bothered to write up the last 7th Sea game all week. a) I've been ill. b) not that much actually happened.

We spent most of the time still in Halgrund, letting Colson poke around with the compass to get as much information as we could out of it before hitting the Midnight Archipelago. Apparently the island we're heading for is called L'Isle des Betes (Island of Beasts, or perhaps Monster Island); the place is used as an exotic hunting ground for the wealthy Montaigne nobility and no 'guests' are allowed without going through some serious channels or being born the right sort of person. So it's going to be a right bugger getting there, think we. However, Colson has arranged for us to be transported to the Midnight Archipelago by someone whose idea of fun is to get up the noses of the Montaigne nobility, so we think, "great!" We also think "too good to be true". Right on both counts. We soon discovered that we would be sailing with Bloody Bonny McGee.

A brief overview of Bloody Bonny McGee. There's this Dread Pirate Roberts type in 7th Sea called Rees (Rhys?). No one faces him and wins; people jump overboard rather than get caught by this guy, because drowning's a much better and less certain way to die. He's got this scythe -- I don't remember the stats on it but it can cut through dracheneisen, and that's scary enough. But Bloody Bonny McGee has faced him and escaped with her life. Twice. He wants her dead, and she's out looking for him too. Anyone travelling with Bloody Bonny McGee would be wise to put their affairs in order very quickly. Thing is, we managed to travel out to this port town and we met McGee -- she seems nice enough, I guess.

So the overview. We're going to be sailing to the Midnight Archipelago -- a place of infamy that makes Francine consistently faint and where her Porte magic is probably not going to work -- and specifically to a private island heavily guarded by the Montaigne, and we will be sailing with a woman marked by the Dread Pirate who paints his sails red with the blood of his victims. I think I will be rolling up another character very very soon because frankly, Aidan's luck cannot hold out against odds this heavily stacked.

On a more personal note, we celebrated Prophetmas. Well, Francine, Alejandro and Violante went to church (being Vaticene and all) while Iduen, Aidan and Axel (the former two being Objectivists and Axel ... well, I don't know what denomination Axel is; he doesn't strike me as that religious anyway) holed up in a reasonably nice tavern and drank mulled wine. Before this, however, there was something of a brawl between Alejandro and Axel regarding a piece of somewhat ancient history (not really my story to tell, but basically due to the 2pt Played by Toos Flaw, Alejandro ran away from a funeral at which he was supposed to officiate). Aidan and Violante stepped in to break it up and, while Violante pommel-struck Axel for minimal damage, Aidan tried grappling with the priest and when that failed, punched him. Dramatic wound, if you can believe it. Aidan blacked a priest's eye!

Anyway, we're now on board ship and headed for the Midnight Archipelago. I think we're bound to see some more action as the trip progresses. If Rhys doesn't get us, there will likely be sea monsters. If there aren't any of those and we manage to avoid flesh eating zombie pirates, we still have to duck the guard around the 'game preserve'. And after that, there's still the beasts of the Midnight Archipelago to deal with ... and that's not counting whatever we're going to have to face to get that other compass back.

I think the last campaign start was easier on me. Aidan didn't have time for foreboding.

Still ill. Hate being ill. I've been woozy and out of it for days, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better no matter how much sleep I get. However, there is some niceness about the whole thing. [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 has set up his dad's old computer and, once we get me my own net connection and haul the thing home, I'll be home free. Well, it'll be good to get it out of here anyway because that means my beloved won't be able to faff with it anymore. I don't see why he needs to faff -- it's still better than anything I've ever owned or ever will.

I'd better feel better by Sunday. I have to go home by then. I've been nearly a week off work and, while I couldn't have hacked work in my current state (yes, I admit it), the only way I'm taking more time off is if I wind up in the hospital.

Just make sure you don't end up in your own hospital! ^_^

(Kidding - get well soon!)
